Floods leave 102 people dead and missing in the Central Highlands

As of 11:30 a.m. on November 23, floods in the central and Central Highlands regions have left 102 people dead and missing, of which 90 are dead and 12 are missing. Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa are the two localities that have suffered the most damage with a total of 87 cases.

Regarding property, about 1,154 houses were damaged and more than 185,700 houses were flooded, of which Dak Lak accounted for 150,000 houses. Agriculture suffered great damage with more than 80,800 hectares of rice and crops, 117,000 hectares of perennial trees and more than 3.2 million livestock and poultry swept away.

Traffic is still blocked by 19 landslides on National Highways 27C, 25, 27 and 20. The Da Nang- Ho Chi Minh City railway has not yet resumed operations.

In the electricity sector, more than 258,000 customers lost power. The communication network had problems in 68 communes and wards, and 371 base transceiver stations (BTS) lost connection.

Preliminary economic damage is estimated at 9,035 billion VND, of which Dak Lak accounts for more than 5,330 billion VND.

On the morning of November 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an urgent online meeting with ministries, branches and four provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong to direct the work of overcoming the consequences. The Ministry of Finance was assigned to urgently release national reserve rice: Dak Lak 2,000 tons, Gia Lai 1,000 tons, Lam Dong 1,000 tons.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc signed Decision 2572/QD-TTg to provide emergency support of VND1,100 billion to four localities to overcome the damage.

Provinces continue to review and update damage, urgently support people to stabilize their lives and restore production.
