Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs chaired and coordinated with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to organize the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2025 with the theme "Gender Equality and Safety for Women and Girls in the Digital Age". Immediately after that, localities also launched the campaign; many agencies and businesses, especially those with a large number of female employees, organized competitions, forums, and exchange programs that attracted the participation of many people. In public areas, along traffic routes, there were many banners warning of violations and recommending actions to promote gender equality and limit gender-based violence.
The dense events and widespread forms of communication have had a direct impact on thinking. Many people have questioned their conscience, their responsibilities and reflected on behavioral recommendations.
The diverse media, both vivid and silent, has done its job well. But those slogans and forms of propaganda, as usual, will also end in about half a month when the month of action ends. Gender-based violence continues to recur here and there, in homes and in public places.
What to do to make the awakening not just a temporary story? The power of media is very great, but also very expensive, the media campaign, no matter how fierce, cannot last long.
The theme for 2025 is “Gender equality and safety for women and girls in the digital age”.
The digital age with digital economic and digital social applications has become popular. Especially after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, digital transformation activities have reached villages, digital applications have entered people's daily lives. Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2025, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha emphasized: The digital age creates opportunities and a more flexible and effective learning and working environment, increasing access to educational resources, remote jobs... It is also a condition for women to participate in raising their voices and creating a network of connections to help them expand their awareness, change their working methods, and better affirm their roles and positions in work and life.
This means that the digital age will create more access and employment opportunities for women and girls, they will have more knowledge, skills, and income, to become more balanced in the family and society. However, the digital transformation process also poses risks and challenges; women and girls are still vulnerable in the digital environment, such as being easily scammed, lured, harassed, etc.
To limit gender-based violence, in addition to taking advantage of the digital environment to promote communication, opening up opportunities for women and girls to access information and jobs, it is necessary to have appropriate protective measures to limit negative impacts. With the responsibility, dedication and efforts of authorities, authorities at all levels, organizations, especially women's organizations, we hope to eliminate the long-standing limitations in protecting women and girls, the question "What will happen after the peak" will no longer have to be asked again.
