The scholarship award ceremony was held by Education New Zealand (ENZ) on the afternoon of November 23.
Mr. Scott James, Consul General of New Zealand in Ho Chi Minh City, assessed that the students were not only talented, but also a cultural and intellectual bridge between the two countries. He expected that the international students would bring the values of New Zealand education to contribute to the development of Vietnam in the future.

The NZUA scholarship was announced by the Prime Minister of New Zealand during his visit to Vietnam in February, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This is the first full university scholarship of the government of this country for Vietnamese students. The total value of this year's scholarship is nearly 3.3 billion VND.
To apply, students need to submit their final year transcripts, English language certificate, a video of up to 1.5 minutes about themselves, their understanding of New Zealand and their study plan if they receive a scholarship, a letter of offer and a scan of their valid passport.
According to ENZ, students with a Grade 12 GPA of 8.5 or higher and an English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 7.0 are eligible to apply.
New Zealand currently has more than 63,000 international students, of which about 1,700 are Vietnamese students. In addition to NZUA, Vietnamese students have previously been granted scholarships by the New Zealand Government for secondary school students (NZSS) and postgraduate students (Manaaki).
All eight of the country's universities, including the University of Auckland, Auckland Technology, Massey, Waikato, Victoria Wellington, Canterbury, Lincoln and Otago, are in the top 2% (top 300) according to the QS World University Rankings 2025.
