Earn billions every year

Loving animals and passionate about agriculture , Mr. Chu Xuan Loc (36 years old, residing in Lien Minh commune, Hanoi) has traveled everywhere to learn effective livestock farming models.

After many months of traveling from North to South to learn about models of raising unique animals such as deer, porcupines, bamboo rats, peacocks, snakes, etc., Mr. Loc decided to try his hand at raising civets, a new pet in the locality.

According to Mr. Loc, although he had researched very carefully, at first he encountered many difficulties when the civets had not yet reproduced, and some mother civets even suffered from postpartum stress. If not cared for promptly, it would affect the survival rate of the civets.

To overcome this, he proactively researched and learned from other farms and adjusted the care process. As a result, his efforts were rewarded when the first litters of civets were born healthy.

Mr. Loc shared that he started investing in this model in early 2023 with 32 civets. The number of breeds is 27 female civets and 5 male civets imported by Mr. Loc from a breeding farm in Hanoi , with the price at that time being 14 million VND/female, 16 million VND/male.

The 32 civets imported by Mr. Loc are all adults so that he can monitor their living habits and characteristics, as well as limit the risk of illness and death.

Thanks to the experiences learned and summarized after the breeding process, Mr. Loc now owns 2 farms of more than 5,700 m² with more than 400 civets, generating revenue of more than 1 billion VND/year and creating stable jobs for 2 local workers with an income of 8 million VND/month.

Mr. Loc said that civets are rare animals, so every change in their numbers, from giving birth, dying or selling, must be "registered" and reported and registered with the forest rangers. In addition, periodically, this force also comes to the farm to check compliance with regulations, to avoid illegal consumption of wild animals.

Civets eat simple food, mainly ripe bananas, sweet fruits and crushed tilapia. The cost of food is only about 1,500 - 2,000 VND/civet/day, but the cage must be cool, clean and fully vaccinated for the civets to grow well, because the weather in the North is not favorable for the best development of civets.

On average, each mother civet gives birth to 2-5 babies, the commercial price reaches 2.5 million VND/kg, stable output for restaurants in Hanoi and neighboring provinces. Mr. Loc's farm is also willing to sell civet breeds to those who want to raise them, but must meet the conditions.

Not only enriching himself, Mr. Loc is also willing to share experiences and transfer techniques to youth union members in the area who share the same passion, wishing to replicate the model, effectively exploit agricultural land funds and promote the youth start-up movement.

"There is still a lot of agricultural land in the area, so I am very supportive and willing to share the experiences I have learned and summarized to pass on to young members who want to start a business. Giving is receiving, if there are people with the same passion, they can support each other in the future to further develop local wildlife farming models," said Mr. Loc.

Breakthrough direction for young entrepreneurs

According to Mr. Bui Manh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Secretary of the Youth Union of Lien Minh commune, in addition to Mr. Loc's civet farming model, there are currently a number of notable agricultural models in the area such as growing black grapes, farms combined with eco -tourism , but the civet farming model is one of the breakthrough directions for high income.

"Mr. Loc's civet farming model is a role model for many young people who dare to think, dare to do, rise up to get rich on their homeland, spreading the entrepreneurial spirit to youth union members of Lien Minh commune," said Mr. Hung.

A representative of the local forest ranger department said that every month, the unit sends officers to inspect. Mr. Loc's facility complies with all regulations and complies with the declaration of the movement of the civet herd. Each individual born is fully reported.

Mr. Le Xuan Thang, Head of the Hanoi Forest Protection Department, said that the raising of civets and mongooses in Hanoi is currently quite popular. In recent years, the number of establishments registering for civet breeding codes has increased rapidly, with some establishments having a relatively large scale of development with hundreds of civets. Mr. Thang assessed that the fact that many establishments have registered to raise civets and the market demand for civet products is met by the supply from legal civet farms is significant in the work of protecting wild animals.

In addition, this activity also helps people have a stable source of income through raising, breeding and producing legal products; gradually transforming livelihoods, reducing dependence on hunting or forest exploitation. In particular, it also helps to increase awareness of wildlife protection, contributing to biodiversity conservation.

Although encouraged, Mr. Thang also noted the need to closely monitor the activities of wildlife breeding facilities to trace their origins, avoiding the situation of taking advantage of legal breeding to illegally consume wild animals from the wild under the guise of legal breeding farms.
