25-year-old female driver transported more than 30 tons of goods from Ho Chi Minh City to provide relief to the Central region - 1 In recent days, people in Ho Chi Minh City have come together to send necessities to receiving points to support people in the Central region who are struggling with floods.

By November 23, 211 tons of relief goods had been delivered by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa province with many essential items such as: rice, life jackets, medicine, diapers, milk, instant noodles, drinking water...

At the receiving point of the groups, trucks and container trailers left Ho Chi Minh City one after another, heading to Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces.

Not only do they donate necessities, many people are willing to put aside their work to help sort goods and load them onto trucks. Many companies and drivers have temporarily suspended their business and are providing free vehicles to transport goods to relief camps.

Husband and wife go to relief work together

On the afternoon of November 23, Dan Tri reporters were present at the relief goods receiving point on D4 Street, Thong Nhat 1 Quarter, Di An Ward (formerly Di An City, Binh Duong Province). People here are urgently sorting and loading goods onto trucks.

Here, 5 large trucks with license plates from Ho Chi Minh City, Gia Lai, Hai Phong… are waiting to load goods. Each vehicle has a banner with the words “Southern people turn to the central region”.

From the calls on social networks, each family, neighborhood, and friend passed on the word to each other, bringing boxes and bags of relief goods.

Volunteers lined up from the collection point to the truck. Each package was passed from one person to another. Despite sweating under the hot sun, everyone was happy and tired.

Pham Thanh Son (31 years old, living in Di An ward) and his wife left their child with their grandparents and went to the gathering point together. The wife helped sort the goods and put them in bags, while the husband helped load them onto the truck.

"Yesterday afternoon, I came here to support 2 cartons of milk and 2 cartons of noodles. This morning, I heard that they needed help loading goods, so after lunch, I invited my wife to come here," said Mr. Son.

Not only relatives and friends, but also drinking buddies also came together to help with loading goods. That was the case of Mr. Tung (37 years old) and 3 friends. At noon on November 23, Mr. Tung went to a colleague's wedding. Sitting at the wedding party, he surfed social media and saw that a place needed help, so he invited his friends at the same table to not drink beer, to save their energy to load the goods.

Before that, Mr. Tung took a motorbike taxi to the wedding because he planned to drink beer. When he saw that someone needed help, he and 3 friends sat with the host for a while and then took a taxi to the meeting point.

"My wife just called to ask why I hadn't come home from a wedding yet. I said I was helping unload charity goods. I had to video call her before she believed me," said Mr. Tung.

Put aside livelihood to do relief work

When he heard that a location on D4 Street needed help loading goods, Nguyen Thai Hoa (26 years old, from Binh Dinh) turned off his motorbike taxi app, put aside his job and traveled more than 10km from his rented room in Thu Dau Mot to Di An to help load the goods onto the truck.

Meanwhile, many truck and container truck drivers also brought their vehicles to the gathering point with the goodwill of offering to transport goods for free. Many drivers rushed to load goods onto their vehicles.

Mr. Do Thanh Nha (40 years old), driver of a container truck with license plate 79H-056.03, said he drove from Khanh Hoa to the West to receive durian, but had not received any goods yet.

While the car was waiting, Mr. Nha heard that the relief goods receiving point needed a truck to transport goods to the Central region. The male driver immediately called the company to discuss and received support for transporting relief goods. All fuel costs were also covered by the company.

Similarly, Mr. Truong Van Vi (28 years old, container truck driver) was dispatched by the company to this location to help transport goods for free to help people.

Standing out among the drivers is Nguyen Thi Thuy Duyen (25 years old). This girl holds the steering wheel of a 30-ton truck, traveling from Gia Lai to Ho Chi Minh City to pick up goods and then transport them to the Central region.

Ms. Duyen said that in Bien Ho commune (Gia Lai province), people also called for donations and she used her vehicle to help transport goods.

However, the amount of goods was only half of the truck. Ms. Duyen immediately drove to Ho Chi Minh City to continue receiving goods to fill the truck. For about a week, Ms. Duyen has put aside her livelihood to accept charity goods for relief.

“I can make a living at any time. If I don’t make money today, I will make money at another time. The people of the Central region are in dire need of support right now. All work must be done urgently. Supporting people to overcome this difficult time is happier than making money,” Ms. Duyen confided.
