Yesterday (November 23), when I heard the news of Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung's passing, I was not "shocked" because I knew he had been sick for a long time. But I was still a little surprised. Perhaps because we usually think that the people we know, have met, and have had the chance to work with, will still be around here somewhere, not going anywhere far.

I still remember the first years as a reporter for Thanh Nien Newspaper (since 2006), I met him right at the beginning of my work. That day, Nguyen Tat Thanh College organized a dialogue, sharing, and answering questions for students majoring in office secretarial, with the participation of the principal, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung.

My first impression of him was his bright eyes, fair skin, agile figure and clear voice. He was friendly and liked reporters. After that exchange with students, what remained in my mind was the image of a principal with a spirit of innovation, modernity, full of enthusiasm and ready to solve all problems for students.

At that time, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung always wondered how to approach candidates and bring information about Nguyen Tat Thanh College to candidates, so he decided to participate in all the Exam Consulting programs of Thanh Nien Newspaper in the provinces and cities.

With that spirit, the school's teachers were sent to accompany the newspaper's delegation, always not afraid of hardships, traveling on a small, cramped passenger bus at that time, from one province to another to provide information and answer questions for 12th grade students about university and college entrance exams...  

It is known that since 2001, implementing the Party and State's policy of equitizing enterprises, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, who was the General Director of Saigon Textile Company, boldly decided to convert Saigon Textile Company into a joint stock company. At that time, many people in the Board of Directors proposed to build apartments for the purpose of super profit, but he wanted to do education .

He had to convince the Board of Directors, call for investment to establish a school, meet the vocational training requirements for textile and garment workers at that time, and at the same time participate in vocational training to supply labor for businesses inside and outside the industry.

In 2002, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision to allow the establishment of the Nguyen Tat Thanh Semi-Public Economic - Technical - Vocational School under the company on the basis of upgrading the Garment Workers Training Center. 3 years later, the Nguyen Tat Thanh Technical Vocational College was established. In 2006, the school was renamed Nguyen Tat Thanh College. And in 2011, the Prime Minister decided to establish Nguyen Tat Thanh University on the basis of upgrading Nguyen Tat Thanh College.

As the head of a business, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung understands better than anyone what students need to be trained in.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung aims to build a university whose output is students who always meet the practical needs of businesses. That school must bring benefits to students, teachers, schools, businesses and value to society.

During his more than 20 years as principal, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung has always been steadfast in the philosophy that training must go hand in hand with practice, ensuring the interests of learners, the interests of teachers, and the interests of society. He always wants students to access knowledge from lecturers with professional qualifications and passion for teaching.

From a school training garment workers, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has now become one of the largest university educational institutions in the country with more than 38,000 students.

After many years of work, with contributions to the economy and education, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung was awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the Party and State, and a certificate of merit by the Government ...

A representative of Nguyen Tat Thanh University said that Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, former Party Secretary, former Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Saigon Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company, and former Principal of the university, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on November 22.

The funeral of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung will take place from 8:00 a.m. on November 27 to 8:00 a.m. on November 28 at the Southern National Funeral Home, No. 5 Pham Ngu Lao, Hanh Thong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
