This is an important part of this year's Da Nang Cultural Heritage Festival, with the theme "Colors of the Great Forest - Convergence of Da Nang's Quintessence", organized by Da Nang Museum, on the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).
Vibrant learning space
During the three days of the program (from November 21 to 23), Da Nang Museum - Campus 2 continuously welcomed hundreds of students from many schools: Huynh Thuc Khang Secondary School (Tam Ky Ward), Quang Nam Academy International Bilingual Primary - Secondary - High School (Quang Phu Ward), Quang Nam University... Not only visiting, the students also participated in interactive classes designed to gain a deeper understanding of the culture of the Co community - an ethnic minority with a long history in Da Nang.
In the thematic class, museum guide Thanh Tuyen shared the program's objectives: "The class provides basic knowledge about the traditional culture of the Co people, especially the unique values of the community living mainly in the Tra My area. We not only explain, but also create a space for the children to discuss, present their knowledge and be creative. One activity that the children really enjoy is drawing the pole and the gu - an important intangible cultural heritage of the Co people."
To create a lively and engaging classroom, the museum staff has taken great care in selecting images and artifacts, designing slideshows, games and group activities. All of this is to help students not only “listen and see” but also “touch, do and experience”.

The program content is designed in a scientific manner and is suitable for the receptive psychology of students. Students learn about traditional village structures, stilt house architecture, wedding customs, typical festivals and brocade weaving...
In the exhibition area, artifacts such as flags, flagpoles, crossbows, costumes, musical instruments, etc. become vivid visual lessons. Lecturers and guides not only explain but also encourage students to take notes, sketch the artifacts and ask questions. Through this, students practice their observation, analysis, presentation and teamwork skills - skills that are essential in a modern learning environment.
As a second-year student of the History Department at Quang Nam University, Po Loong Thi Nguyet was very excited to join the class. Nguyet said: “I attended the class to listen to the teachers explain about the traditional culture of my people, as well as the culture of other ethnic groups in the area. Through the program, I feel the need to study carefully so that I can return to contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural values of my people, contributing to my homeland.”
Spreading the spirit of heritage conservation
Museum guide Thanh Tuyen believes that through learning about artifacts, images, customs, festivals and traditional occupations of the Co people, students will be aware of the value of cultural diversity, thereby forming an attitude of respect, pride and responsibility in preserving Vietnamese cultural identity.

At the same time, it helps students practice their observation, note-taking, presentation, teamwork and creativity skills through experiential activities in the educational program, contributing to the effective implementation of the local history education program.
Mr. Tran Van Duc, Deputy Director of Da Nang Museum in charge of Facility 2, said that including Co culture in the program was a deliberate decision. “Co culture has many unique values, from village structure to pole-raising rituals and gu. We want to honor and promote those values to young people and the community. This is also a way to bring the museum closer to life, turning the museum into an open learning space,” Mr. Duc said.
According to Mr. Duc, feedback from students in recent times shows that the need to experience culture and history at museums is increasing. Many students expressed their desire to participate in more similar classes.
“On that basis, the museum will soon organize a study tour about brocade weaving and the art of singing and reciting folk songs - cultural heritages of local ethnic groups. The museum will invite artisans to perform on-site so that students can both listen to lectures and watch them visually. From there, it will inspire students to understand that the unique values of their ethnic groups are not only preserved and promoted in the community but also in the museum.
To see that the museum not only performs the function of preserving and promoting heritage values but also expands the experience space, turning the museum into a social learning space. This is a new direction,” said Mr. Duc.
With a methodical, creative and humane organization, the program "Colors of the Great Forest - Convergence of the Quintessence of Da Nang" not only helps the young generation understand more about Co culture, but also arouses love for heritage, thereby nurturing the awareness of preserving national cultural values in today's community.
