Intercropping - an effective direction
Previously, Mr. Nguyen Van Lam's family mainly grew coffee, with unstable income, depending heavily on the weather and market prices. After many visits to effective production models, he realized that intercropping was a suitable solution to divide the harvest, reduce risks and increase economic efficiency.

Since 2018, he has boldly converted more than 2 hectares of land to a model of intercropping coffee, pepper, avocado and durian. Combining different crops helps the garden always have a year-round source of income. In the rainy season, he harvests durian, and at the end of the year, he harvests coffee and pepper. Thanks to that, the family economy has gradually stabilized and developed.
Mr. Lam said: “Farmers must know how to divide crops to have a steady income. Thanks to intercropping and applying new techniques, my family earns more than 1 billion VND each year.”
Not only did he change the crop structure, he also applied new high-yield varieties, grafted old coffee trees, and invested in drip irrigation systems to save water and reduce labor costs. These improvements significantly increased productivity and quality of agricultural products; the garden developed stably, limited pests and diseases, and brought sustainable economic value.
Not keeping his experience to himself, Mr. Lam is always willing to share his methods with members in the Association's meetings. When a member needs support, he goes directly to each garden to guide the planting process, care, disease treatment and appropriate plant arrangement. Thanks to that, many farmers in the village have boldly changed their models, applied new techniques and improved their income.
Mr. Cao Van Minh (member of the Farmers' Association of Bien Ho commune) shared: "Thanks to learning from Mr. Lam's experience, my family switched to intercropping coffee, pepper and durian. The crops grow well, each crop brings income, so life is more stable."

Nearly 20 years of dedication to the Association's work
Having been involved in the Association since 2007, Mr. Lam has been the Branch President for 18 years. With the motto "Association officials must be exemplary, words must go hand in hand with actions", he has always been a pioneer in all activities, from implementing movements, providing technical guidance to mobilizing members to participate in regular activities.
Thanks to that, the Farmers' Association of Nghia Hung 2 village has maintained a good routine of activities; movements to support each other in seeds, fertilizers, and farming techniques have been promoted. Many farming households who were previously confused about changing crops are now confident in applying new techniques to production.
Up to now, the Association has had 6 members achieving the title of “Excellent Production and Business”, many households have become well-off thanks to the conversion of suitable models. This is the result of Mr. Lam’s persistent advocacy, guidance and companionship over the past many years.

In addition to his role as Branch President, Mr. Lam also actively participates in building the Party and local government, while mobilizing people to protect the environment, treat wastewater from production, and apply sustainable agricultural models. His contributions not only create changes in production but also contribute to building a civilized lifestyle and awareness of protecting land and water resources.

With his dedication to the Association's work and efficiency in production and business, he has been repeatedly awarded at the commune, district (formerly) and central levels. In particular, in 2015, he was honored to receive the "For the Vietnamese Farmer Class" Medal from the Vietnam Farmers' Association ; in the period 2018-2023, he was recognized as an outstanding elderly person with good economic performance.
Mr. Nguyen Van Du - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Bien Ho Commune - assessed: "Mr. Nguyen Van Lam is an enthusiastic and responsible Association officer, with many effective initiatives in the Association's work and agricultural production. Despite his age, he is always at the forefront of the movement, an important bridge between the Association and the people."
