At 3 p.m. on November 29, the Thanh Ha pottery village tourist wharf began to bustle. Groups of foreign tourists took turns getting on boats to return to the old town after visiting the craft village.
After a relaxing time visiting the craft village, Mr. Min Jun Ho, a Korean tourist, felt quite comfortable and excited. "I have just experienced one of the oldest craft villages in Vietnam, now I will continue to admire the ancient town of Hoi An from this boat, a very pleasant feeling," said Mr. Min Jun Ho.
Located along the Thu Bon River, Thanh Ha Pottery Village has a history of over 500 years, famous for its exquisite handicrafts and traditional pottery techniques passed down through generations. Previously, the village still had a boat dock to welcome visitors, but due to spontaneity and lack of safety, it was temporarily suspended.
On September 1, 2025, Thanh Ha pottery village inland waterway port will resume operation after completing legal procedures, creating a new, sustainable and more attractive tourism product for tourists and the local community.

Mr. Ho Huu Chanh, Head of the Tourism Management Team (Hoi An Tay Ward Public Service Supply Center) said that after nearly 3 months of operation, the tourist boat dock has shown positive signs, reflected not only in the number of visitors increasing by over 50% but also in bringing satisfaction and enjoyment to tourists.
“If before September 2025, Thanh Ha pottery village welcomed about 500 visitors per day, from October it increased to 700 visitors and in November it was 1,000 visitors per day. Many travel companies combine visiting the craft village and experiencing the river by picking up guests at the beach, transferring by electric car to the village, then taking a boat back to the old town or to Bay Mau coconut forest, creating a complete experience journey”, Mr. Ho Huu Chanh shared.

The rise of waterway tourism not only brings appeal and attraction to visitors but also helps create positive changes for the local community. Some check-in spaces have been formed; many ceramic establishments have increased their experience guiding activities for visitors...
Statistics show that after 3 months of operation of the boat dock, nearly 60,000 visitors came to visit and experience Thanh Ha pottery village.
The flourishing tourism activities also contribute to promoting heritage conservation, preserving the environmental landscape, improving service infrastructure, bringing satisfaction to tourists and local communities.

According to Mr. Bui Van Dung, Chairman of Hoi An Tay Ward People's Committee, the reopening of the tourist wharf is a great effort of the locality to diversify the experience services for tourists, which is expected by the people, travel businesses and tourists.
"It is estimated that about 50% of visitors to the pottery village come by waterway, mainly international visitors. Hopefully this number will continue to increase in the coming time," said Mr. Bui Van Dung.
Thanh Ha pottery village tourist boat dock is located at Km1+600 of branch 2 of Thu Bon river, on the left bank of Hoi An Tay ward. The project belongs to the group of level 3 wharves; designed area of 76.5m2 , including T-shaped boat dock, access road, waiting house, management house and auxiliary items, allowed to receive vehicles with draft of 0.56m, carrying 40 passengers.
