In recent years, Thanh Ha pottery village (Hoi An Tay ward) has welcomed a considerable number of visitors arriving by waterway via the Thu Bon River (estimated to account for 70% of visitors to the village).
However, in early 2025, the ferry terminal in the village had to cease operations due to not meeting standards, causing a significant drop in visitor numbers. Specifically, in the first six months of this year, the number of visitors to Thanh Ha pottery village reached only about 158,000 (only 52% compared to the same period in 2024 and only 20% of the 2025 plan).
Therefore, the Hoi An Tay ward authorities have taken steps to restore the operation of the ferry terminal located at Km1+600 on the Thu Bon River's secondary branch. The terminal officially resumed operations on September 1st, and after more than a month of operation, it has helped to boost the number of visitors to Thanh Ha pottery village.
In early October, the Hoi An Dong ward authorities also inaugurated the Thanh Tam wharf on the Cam Thanh river, with an operating period until 2030. Mr. Tran Tan Dung, Chairman of the Hoi An Dong Ward People's Committee, said that this is the first standard-compliant waterway wharf in the ward.
In the coming time, the local authorities will continue to survey and plan for several other waterways to strengthen connections between river tourism routes, meeting the sightseeing needs of tourists in the Bay Mau coconut forest area.
Not only in the Hoi An area, but the need to establish a network of inland waterway terminals on several river routes in the city is also urgent. In Vinh Dien ward, the ward government will soon establish two waterway terminals in the Triem Tay and Dong Khuong areas, connected to the Thu Bon River.
In addition, the local authorities will propose to the city's functional agencies to add a wharf to the planning to serve tourism development associated with the Vinh Dien River. Meanwhile, the People's Committee of Huong Tra Ward proposes that the city's functional agencies promptly consider and agree on the four planned wharf locations that the ward has submitted.
In this area, there has long been a plan to develop waterway tourism from the Tam Ky River connecting to Phu Ninh Lake, linked with ecotourism destinations, but it has faced many difficulties due to the lack of a standard waterway terminal.

In addition to the network of wharves that local authorities are striving to establish and propose, the project to build and operate inland waterway tourism, which has been approved by the City People's Committee, is also expected to create a breakthrough for wharve infrastructure serving tourism.
This project will construct, renovate, and upgrade a total of 20 inland waterway terminals in the city, along with supporting facilities for terminal operations, on a total land area of over 15 hectares.
Specifically, during the period 2025-2030, seven inland waterway terminals will be built along the Han River. Meanwhile, during the period 2028-2031, thirteen inland waterway terminals will be built along the Vinh Dien, Co Co, and Cam Le rivers.
The early expansion of the inland waterway system in the city will make a significant contribution to achieving the goal of waterway tourism accounting for approximately 15-20% of Da Nang 's total overnight visitors by 2030. It is known that in 2024, Da Nang's inland waterway tourist arrivals reached nearly 940,000 (an increase of over 13% compared to the same period).
