According to the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, heavy rains from October 26 to 30 caused landslides at 21 locations on the La Son - Hoa Lien section, with about 146,000 cubic meters of rock and soil spilling onto the road surface. Despite urgent cleanup and temporary traffic arrangements, the landslide situation remains complicated.
Records show that a series of concrete slabs on the slope have broken and slid down to the edge of the road. Particularly, the section Km41-Km43 (Hai Van ward, Da Nang ) has at least 4 major landslides; red soil and mud continuously flow down, causing danger to passing vehicles.
Notably, the section Km50+700 - Km50+800 had a negative slope landslide that damaged part of the road surface and the retaining wall was swept into the stream. The construction unit had to install iron stakes and make a temporary concrete road to maintain two-way traffic.
To thoroughly handle the problem, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board proposed to dig up the entire sliding roadbed and build a 176m long, 22m wide overpass to ensure long-term safety. Currently, the investor has arranged a temporary median strip, stretched ropes and installed warning signs from a distance to guide vehicles to slow down and avoid dangerous areas.
It is known that the La Son - Tuy Loan highway is 77.5km long, of which more than 11km passes through the steep mountainous area of Bach Ma National Park, where landslides often occur during heavy rains. While the problem is being fixed, the expansion of the La Son - Hoa Lien section from 2 to 4 lanes is also being severely affected by consecutive landslides.
