World steel prices fluctuate within a narrow range
At the end of the session on December 3, the price of steel rebar for December delivery on the Shanghai Stock Exchange decreased by 0.07% to 3,020 yuan/ton.
On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, iron ore prices rose 0.7% to 795 yuan/tonne.
The December iron ore contract on the Singapore Exchange increased by 0.45 USD to 107.85 USD/ton.
Iron ore prices edged lower on weak demand, with investors keeping a close eye on key upcoming economic meetings in China for guidance on growth targets that could support the market.
Analysts say a broader macro trend is driving speculation in China-linked commodity markets, with investors awaiting signals from the Central Economic Work Conference.
Some traders are taking positions ahead of these meetings to anticipate a possible rise in steel prices. However, experts say the likelihood of China announcing large-scale steel stimulus programs is low.
In the key steelmaking region of Tangshan, hot pig iron output is on a downward trend due to strict environmental inspections. However, Mysteel experts forecast that steel prices in China may rise in December thanks to the improving macroeconomic environment.
In India, iron ore imports have risen to a six-year high this year as steel mills ramped up purchases from overseas to offset a shortage of high-quality ore at home and take advantage of lower international steel prices. India’s iron ore imports more than doubled in the first 10 months of 2025.

Domestic steel prices remain stable in all three regions.
