
Lots of room for development
With more than 15 years of experience in the mountains and forests, Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Ngan, Director of Tra Tap Medicinal Herbs Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, has strived to spread the value of the land and people of Nam Tra My region (formerly Quang Nam province).
From the tour “Legend of Ngoc Linh ginseng” connected by the cooperative with tourism units, visitors can experience the life of the local people, enjoy specialties and learn about the story of Ngoc Linh ginseng and precious medicinal resources of the locality. Thereby, contributing to promoting highland products, creating sustainable livelihoods and helping people get rich in their homeland.
Ms. Ngan shared that after Quang Nam and Da Nang merged, Tra Tap Medicinal Herbs Agricultural Tourism Cooperative had the opportunity to participate in promoting products at many events on tourism, startups, etc.
In particular, recently, the cooperative participated in the 2025 Autumn Fair in Hanoi, receiving the trust and connection of many customers.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the total area for ginseng development and conservation in Da Nang city reaches 15,568 hectares, concentrated in the communes of Tra Linh, Tra Leng, Tra Tap and Nam Tra My.
The city is home to more than 1,000 medicinal plant species, many of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book. In addition to Ngoc Linh ginseng, Da Nang also has a rich source of indigenous medicinal plants such as codonopsis pilosula, morinda officinalis, gymnema sylvestre, cardamom, polyscias fruticosa, ca gai leo, and tea vine... which have high medicinal and economic value and can be the main source of raw materials for the deep processing industry.
The city has more than 10 enterprises processing and trading products from Ngoc Linh ginseng and local medicinal herbs, creating diverse products. The Da Nang OCOP program has 33 products in the herbal group and 270 agricultural products. The geographical indication “Ngoc Linh ginseng” has been protected at the Department of Intellectual Property…
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Quang Buu said that Da Nang is benefiting from two important documents of the Government, including: Decision 611/QD-TTg and Decision 463/QD-TTg related to the development of Vietnamese ginseng and medicinal herbs.
In particular, Decision 463/QD-TTg identifies Da Nang city as the medicinal herbs center of the country, aiming to expand to Southeast Asia and the world. Da Nang is planning to materialize the above policies effectively and practically.
Suggestions for medicinal plant development
From the advantages for Da Nang to strongly develop and commercialize medicinal herb agriculture, Deputy Director of the City Department of Agriculture and Environment Vu Thi Bich Hau said that it is necessary to perfect the mechanism for renting forest environment, provide specific instructions on the process and criteria for evaluating ecological - economic - social efficiency; and promote preferential policies for enterprises investing in medicinal herb processing and technology.
Deploying a national medicinal herbs trade promotion program, connecting Da Nang businesses with domestic and international distribution chains, building a digital trading platform for OCOP products and medicinal herbs.
In addition, it is necessary to call on strategic partners to invest in raw material areas, extraction factories, and high-value products, aiming to export Vietnamese medicinal herbs under the brand name Ngoc Linh Ginseng, Vietnam's national treasure.
It is necessary to strengthen coordination between the city and institutes, schools, and businesses in research on transplanting and propagating Ngoc Linh ginseng, applying biotechnology and stem cells. Promote research, incubation, and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng products - Da Nang medicinal herbs as the core connecting R&D and businesses; build national standard laboratories...

From the business unit perspective, Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Ngan, Director of Tra Tap Medicinal Herbs Agricultural Tourism Cooperative, suggested: "Currently, infrastructure and roads connecting to the ginseng area are still limited due to the impact of natural disasters. We hope that the government and businesses will soon invest in infrastructure, forming the most convenient and fastest route to connect visitors to the ginseng area."
Ms. Le Thi Bich Luyen, General Director of Triet Minh Company Limited (TRIMICO), said that to promote the commercialization of innovative start-up products on medicinal agriculture, it is necessary to have preferential credit policies, investment funds for medicinal agriculture start-ups; promote digital transformation, traceability, electronic stamps, and growing area codes; strengthen connections between businesses, research institutes, and industry associations to share knowledge; and support commune-level innovation centers.
