New look for the outpost island
After more than 2 months since the groundbreaking ceremony, the project to invest in building a new rural traffic infrastructure on Bach Long Vi island has reached more than 60% progress. The contractor is urgently expanding and upgrading 3 main roads of Bach Long Vi special economic zone, with a total length of more than 2 km.
Old mountain level 4 roads, more than 5 meters wide, built decades ago, are being renovated and widened to 7.5 - 10.5 meters. Along with that, sidewalks and lighting systems on both sides of the road are also being installed, bringing a spacious and modern appearance to the island outpost of the Fatherland.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Phuong, representative of the construction contractor, the nature of construction on an island far from the mainland faces many difficulties, especially in the transportation of raw materials. In particular, the consecutive large storms that have made landfall in recent times have also significantly affected the construction progress. However, determining that this is an important project, the contractor has coordinated with the Bach Long Vi Special Zone Investment and Construction Project Management Board to proactively develop a response plan, arranging shifts to work intensively on favorable weather days with the highest determination to complete the entire project in 2025.

With a total investment of more than 94 billion VND, the project to invest in building a special new rural traffic infrastructure on Bach Long Vi island, after completion, will connect with the remaining 14.6 km of traffic roads on the island, forming a smooth and seamless traffic infrastructure from the administrative center of the special zone to the routes around the island.
After more than 30 years of construction and development, up to now, Bach Long Vi Island has more than 16.6 km of roads. From the initially bumpy gravel roads built by the youth volunteer force, up to now, all roads on Bach Long Vi Island are paved with asphalt and concrete to ensure convenient car travel all year round. Along with that, the system of trees and flowers along the roads and through residential areas has also been newly planted to add to the beauty of the island.
In parallel, the inland waterway traffic system managed by the special zone is installed with a signaling system; inland waterway terminals serving the transportation of passengers and goods ensure safety conditions and are licensed to operate. At the two inland waterway ports, Bach Long Vi Inland Waterway Port and Tay Nam Bach Long Vi Port, 47 buoys are installed in the port lock, 7 navigation and shoal warning buoys, and 3 warning signs. This buoy system is regularly maintained and serviced to ensure smooth and stable operation.
Continue to expand and renovate
According to Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Long Vi Special Zone Dao Minh Dong, in the coming time, the traffic network on Bach Long Vi Island will continue to be planned based on the principle of expanding and improving existing routes, adding some new routes to achieve high mobility. At the same time, it will be convenient to access departure and arrival points and add some routes to serve socio -economic development combined with strengthening national defense potential.
Building synchronous and modern infrastructure, enhancing land and island transportation, and providing electricity and clean water play a very important role, first of all, in serving the daily needs of islanders.

At the same time, attracting investment sources, exploiting the potential of the special zone is associated with the task of ensuring security and national defense. The special zone focuses on investing in the waterway transport system connecting the island with mainland ports. The existing fishery logistics service centers in Bach Long Vi will continue to be upgraded completely. The northwest port project of the island will also be completed along with promoting the search for new investment projects to renovate the southwest port to increase the anchorage area for ships.
A synchronous and modern transport infrastructure is also the basis for the special zone to attract investment in building accommodation facilities, restaurants, resorts... with sufficient conditions to serve tourists. From there, build sea tourism products, resort tourism, eco-tourism combined with scientific research, effectively exploiting the potential and natural advantages of the island to attract seafarers, sea exploiters and tourists who love eco-tourism in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Thereby, gradually realizing the goal of building Bach Long Vi into a center for fisheries logistics and search and rescue services in the Northern region by 2030. At the same time, developing tourism to become a key product of the special zone in the coming time.
