According to Tuoi Tre Online , Coach Kim Sang Sik has removed Vadim Nguyen from the list of U22 Vietnam players preparing for the 33rd SEA Games. The detailed list of U22 Vietnam players will be announced by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in the next few days.
In this list, only 2 Vietnamese-American players, Tran Thanh Trung and Viktor Le, remained. Vadim Nguyen still could not compete for a position despite receiving praise from the coaching staff and teammates after his performance in the training camp and tour to Qatar last October.
In addition, other overseas Vietnamese players in V-League such as Damian Vu Thanh An and Lee Williams also failed to convince coach Kim Sang Sik and were not on the call-up list.
The common point of the overseas Vietnamese players who were not selected for the U22 Vietnam team is that they do not have an official position in their club. These players have not shown that their level is superior to that of domestic players in the same position.
Damian Vu Thanh An scored 1 goal for The Cong - Viettel in the first rounds of V-League but was not registered by coach Velizar Popov. Lee Williams was also only given a chance by coach Le Huynh Duc at Cong An TP.HCM Club so he has not shown anything yet. The same goes for Vadim Nguyen in Da Nang.
But with Tran Thanh Trung and Viktor Le, these are two Vietnamese-American faces that stand out more. Viktor Le has played in the V-League for many years and shone for Ha Tinh Club. He recently scored and assisted in the win over Hanoi in round 9. Thanh Trung has 1 assist after 2 recent starting matches for the top team Ninh Binh.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , coach Kim Sang Sik still leaves open the possibility of eliminating Tran Thanh Trung, depending on the player's efforts in the upcoming training sessions of U22 Vietnam.
The reason is that Thanh Trung has only just returned to Vietnam this summer and is not really used to Vietnam's weather and climate, so he has not been able to show his full potential.
U22 Vietnam will test their mettle in the Panda Cup (China) friendly tournament, when they play against Uzbekistan, South Korea and the host team. Leading U22 Vietnam in the November training sessions is acting coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
