Less than an hour later, more than 500 officers and soldiers marched through the night to reach the scene, coordinating with local forces to implement rescue plans, striving to hold every meter of the embankment threatened by floodwaters, and protecting the safety of the residential area.
Previously, the City Military Command, in coordination with local forces, reinforced over 500 meters of embankment. However, due to prolonged rain and heavy flooding from upstream, many sections of the embankment continued to erode. At the scene, rising floodwaters and strong currents created a complex situation, directly threatening the residential area of An Luong village. The armed forces promptly cordoned off vulnerable points and organized control measures at each dangerous location to protect the lives and property of the people.
Colonel Tran Huu Ich, Commander of the Da Nang City Military Command, said that the militia and self-defense forces of the Zone 5 Defense Command - Dien Ban, along with units under the City Military Command, mobilized immediately during the night to handle the situation. He added that the immediate task is to use all means to maintain the embankment, preventing further erosion by waves, and to continue reinforcing it the following day to ensure long-term safety.
In emergency situations, the forces were divided into small teams, closely monitoring each vulnerable section of the embankment, transporting bags of soil and erecting gabions for temporary reinforcement. With almost no time to rest, the officers and soldiers hastily ate bread and drank stream water to maintain their strength. According to observations at the scene, each section of the embankment held firm was the result of the resolute spirit, responsibility, and dedication of the armed forces, who always stood alongside the Party committee, the government, and the people of An Luong village in their efforts to combat the floods.
Mr. Ngo Van Hai, head of An Luong village, Duy Nghia commune, expressed his gratitude for the spirit of the forces: “The soldiers of the Military Region and the City Military Command, even in the middle of the night, marched to support our people in reinforcing the embankment and protecting the residential area. The people of An Luong are very appreciative and grateful.”
Currently, forces are maintaining a presence at the scene, continuing to inspect and reinforce sections of the embankment at risk of collapse. The Da Nang City Military Command is coordinating with local authorities and relevant agencies to comprehensively assess the risks and propose structural and non-structural solutions for long-term response. The highest priority is ensuring the safety of the residents of An Luong village in the face of increasingly extreme weather events.
