Responsible farming – a requirement from both sides.

Many experts believe that responsible farming is a two-way street requirement, involving both consumers and farmers. Consumers are increasingly discerning in their purchasing decisions, only buying safe, high-quality agricultural products. Meanwhile, farmers also want to expand their market share by committing to producing environmentally responsible products.

Surveys in the Da Lat and Don Duong areas show that many agricultural households have stated that, driven by market demands for transparency in the value chain, farmers must change their production mindset, prioritizing the value of agricultural products instead of just focusing on increasing production volume as before, in order to participate more deeply in the supply chain. Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Cam, the owner of a farm in Don Duong commune, shared: “To maintain and expand market share, developing green agriculture (organic agriculture, ecological agriculture, etc.) is a mandatory requirement for all farmers. Consumers will only buy agricultural products that are clearly sourced, green, clean, high-quality, and safe. Nowadays, consumers not only buy agricultural products, but also peace of mind.”

Mr. Ta Minh Son, Director of Tu Son Supermarket (Chau Doc Ward, An Giang Province), a unit currently distributing and selling characteristic agricultural products of Lam Dong Province, added: “Transparency in origin and consistent quality are core elements to retain customers. This is also the criterion of Tu Son Supermarket when introducing agricultural products into its distribution system to build customer trust.”

In the context of increasingly severe climate change, environmentally responsible agricultural production is becoming more and more urgent.

Based on monitoring fluctuations in the agricultural market, Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the International Cooperation Department ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), observed that the competitive trend has shifted from increasing production and low prices to "green value," prioritizing value. During a visit to a responsible agricultural production model at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Da Lat University, with students from the University of Agriculture, Can Tho, Dr. Dinh Quang Anh, a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Da Lat University, also affirmed: In agricultural economics, quality is the brand. Therefore, farmers should not just sell agricultural products but also sell the value system of those products. According to Dr. Dinh Quang Anh, tightening quality management of agricultural products, from production to distribution, alongside transparency in food safety, is a way to increase the value of agricultural products and build consumer trust.

Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Truong Ward, Da Lat, shared: The consumer's preference for environmentally responsible agricultural products has contributed to changing the production habits of farmers. Farmers are increasingly concerned with the efficient use of land, water, and energy resources, minimizing the use of chemicals in agricultural production. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions have decreased significantly, promoting the development of a circular economy.
