The number of people seeking medical treatment for seasonal flu has increased dramatically.

According to the Khanh Hoa Province Tropical Diseases Hospital, since the end of October, every day there have been many people coming to see a doctor for seasonal flu. Most of the patients came to the hospital with high fever, cough and runny nose; some children have developed respiratory infections...

Ms. Le T.Th. (West Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa) shared that the weather changed erratically, with rainy days and sunny days, so her child had a high fever for 3 days. She bought medicine for her child but it did not improve, so she had to take her child to Khanh Hoa Tropical Diseases Hospital for examination. Here, the doctors diagnosed that Ms. Th.'s child had seasonal flu that had turned into severe respiratory infection, so she had to stay in the hospital for monitoring for a few days.

Many other people in Khanh Hoa who brought their children to the hospital also shared that when they saw their children coughing and having a fever, they thought that buying medicine for them to take for a few days would help them recover. However, on the 3rd or 4th day, the high fever still did not go away, and when they were taken to the hospital, they had severe respiratory infections.

According to Khanh Hoa Province Hospital for Tropical Diseases, seasonal flu is an acute respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses, most commonly influenza A and influenza B. The disease is transmitted rapidly through the respiratory tract when a sick person coughs, sneezes, talks or through hands or objects containing the virus.

People with seasonal flu have typical symptoms such as sudden high fever above 38°C, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, cough, sore throat, stuffy nose - runny nose...

Dr. Ly The Huy - Deputy Director in charge of Khanh Hoa Province Tropical Diseases Hospital informed that in September, there were only 5 cases of seasonal flu coming to the hospital (3 people were hospitalized for treatment, 2 people received prescriptions to take home).

In October, there were 657 cases coming to Khanh Hoa Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases for examination and treatment of seasonal flu.

However, in October, the number of cases coming to see a doctor and get treatment for seasonal flu increased dramatically, with 657 cases. Notably, 456 of these cases had to be hospitalized due to signs of respiratory infection and pneumonia. The hospital treated all of these cases very well, and at the same time instructed the family members to take good care of the patients, so they quickly recovered.

Doctor recommends things to remember

On November 9, Dr. Ton That Toan - Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Khanh Hoa province said that this is the time when many people get seasonal flu (mainly influenza B) in Khanh Hoa due to the rainy and cold weather. The disease is not dangerous and usually heals after 5 to 7 days. However, people should not be subjective because in some cases, it can lead to complications such as severe respiratory infections, pneumonia, bacterial superinfections, etc.

"When the fever does not go down, you feel tired a lot, cough a lot... you must go to the hospital so that the doctors can give you treatment, especially for children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with many underlying diseases. At the same time, we also recommend that people get vaccinated against seasonal flu," said Dr. Toan.

According to Dr. Ton That Toan, in Khanh Hoa there are many cases of seasonal flu but they are not examined and treated early, leading to a situation where one person gets sick and infects the whole family.

According to Dr. Ton That Toan, washing hands regularly with soap is important to prevent seasonal flu.

To prevent seasonal flu, Dr. Toan recommends some things people should remember carefully such as: maintaining personal hygiene and keeping the environment around where they live clean, improving nutrition, and eating lots of fiber.

"Most importantly, people must regularly wash their hands with soap, especially before eating and drinking, and after using the toilet. At the same time, when someone in the family has seasonal flu, they should be isolated for a few days to wait for the disease to recover, to avoid infecting others. In addition, this is the time when the number of people with seasonal flu increases, people should cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and avoid close contact with people with seasonal flu symptoms," said Dr. Ton That Toan .
