On the evening of November 7, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to celebrate the Ho Chi Minh City men's volleyball team winning the 2025 National A-Class Volleyball Tournament.
Unexpected success
At the recent National A-Class Volleyball Tournament, the Ho Chi Minh City team did not have a strong force like other teams. They used 100% self-trained athletes, did not borrow players from outside and did not hire foreign players. Most of them were very young athletes, mainly in the U21 and U23 groups.
However, this underrated team did wonders when they won the championship. On that journey, they overcame many strong teams, including Vinh Long in the semi-finals and Ha Tinh in the finals.
This achievement helps the representative from the city named after Uncle Ho to be promoted to the 2026 National Championship. The A-League championship brings joy to the coaching staff and athletes, but also leaves challenges ahead.

Mr. Ha Vu Son, General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Volleyball Federation, shared on the sidelines of the celebration ceremony: "Before the tournament, we did not focus on achievements but only encouraged the whole team to compete with all their might. Looking at the team's strength compared to the general level, everyone understood that the Ho Chi Minh City team had little chance.
Therefore, the championship and the promotion ticket are unexpected achievements. This is very good news for city volleyball when we return to the national championship for men.
The problem now is how to find sponsors to prepare for the new season. Hopefully we will soon have the funding to calculate personnel, hire foreign players and ensure the athletes can compete with peace of mind."
Captain Tran Hoai Phuong also said: "Even though almost a week has passed, when I look back, I still feel like I just won the championship.
This year's results were surprising, beyond the team's expectations. When we entered the field, everyone fought with all their might and showed their full potential. Next year in the National Championship, we will face much stronger teams, but everyone will maintain that fighting spirit."
Hundreds of millions in bonuses

At the celebration, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the team 200 million VND, while the Department of Culture and Sports also awarded 100 million VND.
Some accompanying units also awarded more than 50 million VND to groups and individuals.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City - said: "The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Culture and Sports are very interested in developing volleyball in the city, raising the level of domestic teams and providing athletes for the national team.
Volleyball is one of the spiritual foods of the city's people, so it receives a lot of expectations. The achievements of the Ho Chi Minh City men's volleyball team are the result of the efforts of the coaching staff and athletes.
I suggest that the coaching staff and the athletes do not rest on their laurels. In 2026, we hope to receive contributions from sponsors, benefactors and the government so that the men's volleyball team can continue to develop the talents of its athletes, continue to connect and add important factors to achieve sustainable development.
We do not put too much emphasis on winning the championship, nor do we put too much emphasis on high rankings. We need to aim to fight with determination, with our talent, and demonstrate the qualities of Ho Chi Minh City volleyball."
