Looking back at history and looking towards the future with new aspirations for a new era of national progress, the Party Committee, government, and people of Quang Nam are even more proud, confident, determined, and decisive in their actions to break through and accelerate on the journey ahead!
The name "Quang Nam" has a history of formation and development spanning over 550 years, since King Le Thanh Tong established the Quang Nam administrative region in 1471. Along with its geographical location, abundant resources, and products, through centuries of historical ups and downs, the land and people of Quang Nam have "positioned" themselves with unique and precious cultural, historical, and traditional values, especially within the broader cultural tradition of the Vietnamese nation. These values have been further refined, nurtured, and developed throughout the nearly one-hundred-year revolutionary journey of the homeland, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
Milestones and achievements
Quang Nam, spanning 95 years since the establishment of its Provincial Party Committee and 50 years since the liberation of its homeland, has experienced special periods marked by significant milestones, victories, and achievements throughout the history of Quang Nam. First and foremost is the establishment of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee on March 28, 1930 – the second provincial Party Committee in the country (after the Hanoi City Party Committee), following the historic date of February 3, 1930 – the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam. From this point, a new chapter opened for Quang Nam – a glorious and heroic chapter in the history of the land.
From a Party Committee with only 80 members at the end of 1930, over time, the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee has continuously grown stronger in terms of personnel; matured in intellect, courage, and will; and its leadership capacity and fighting strength have been constantly enhanced. By the end of 2024, the entire Party Committee had 1,119 grassroots Party organizations with 73,495 members. In every stage of the revolution, the Provincial Party Committee has always remained steadfast in its leadership role and served as the center for uniting, gathering, and mobilizing the combined strength of the army and people of the entire province; absolutely loyal to the goals and ideals of the Party; unafraid of hardship and sacrifice; relying on the people, closely adhering to reality, being flexible, creative, dynamic, and insightful in leadership and guidance, contributing decisively to the glorious victories and outstanding achievements of the heroic land of Quang Nam.
During the resistance war against French colonial invasion, the movement for "democracy and people's livelihood" in the years 1936-1939, under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, developed vigorously and spread throughout the region. History continues to "record" Quang Nam, with the remarkable achievement of being one of the five localities that seized power earliest in the country during the historic August Revolution of 1945!
During the second resistance against the French, with the creative and flexible application of the Party Central Committee's policy of all-people, comprehensive, and protracted resistance, relying primarily on self-reliance, the army and people of Quang Nam completely defeated the French colonialists' "quick victory" plan, thwarted many insidious plots of the enemy, and culminated in the victory at Bo Bo - a "Dien Bien Phu" in Quang Nam, contributing to the final victory of the Vietnamese people's resistance against French colonialism.
With a fervent patriotic tradition and an unwavering, indomitable spirit, over more than 20 years of resistance against the US for national liberation, Quang Nam province demonstrated "courage and resilience," leaving behind glorious achievements and victories. These include the victory at Nui Thanh – the first battle against the US (May 26, 1965) – followed by victories at Doc commune outpost (March 27, 1971), and victories at Thuong Duc, Dong Duong, Cam Doi, Nong Son - Trung Phuoc, etc., leading to the complete liberation of Quang Nam on the historic day of March 24, 1975.
Following the reunification of the country, Quang Nam quickly embarked on the reconstruction and development of its homeland, with new movements and action slogans. A prominent mark in the early period after liberation was the reclamation and restoration of tens of thousands of hectares of land for production; the rapid construction of large-scale irrigation and hydroelectric projects such as Phu Ninh and Khe Tan; and the establishment of nationally renowned cooperatives like Dai Phuoc and Dien Tho.
It can be affirmed that throughout the past 50 years, the Party Committee, government, and people of Quang Nam have consistently persevered through difficulties, working together in unity and solidarity, strongly promoting the patriotic and revolutionary traditions and the distinctive cultural identity of Quang Nam; mobilizing human and material resources, and taking advantage of all resources to build and develop the homeland, ensuring strong national defense, security, and social order, and protecting the peaceful lives of the people in all stages of the province's development.
From a predominantly agricultural economy with fragmented and backward agricultural production, where over 50% of households were living in poverty; with virtually no significant industry or tourism; and budget revenue of only over 150 billion VND in the first year of the province's re-establishment (1997), Quang Nam has continuously risen with impressive development.
Since 2017, Quang Nam has officially regulated domestic revenue collection to the central government; in 2024, total economic revenue generated in the province reached over 27,600 billion VND (217 times higher than in 1997), the economic scale exceeded 129 trillion VND, and per capita income was over 84 million VND. The economic structure has shifted strongly towards industry and services. People's lives have continuously improved, the poverty rate has decreased rapidly, reaching only 4.56% by the end of 2024. The province has 149 out of 193 communes recognized as achieving new rural standards, and 5 district-level units have also achieved new rural standards. The appearance of urban areas, rural areas, mountainous regions, islands, and border areas has completely changed compared to the early days after the liberation of the homeland.
To date, the province has the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, home to the largest automobile manufacturing and assembly center in the country; and the Chu Lai Airport, planned for construction as a 4F-class international airport. The province has 14 industrial parks and over 50 industrial clusters in operation, attracting many large investors. Infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure, is developing comprehensively, including airports, seaports, railways, and inter-regional road networks. Tourism and services are developing rapidly, with Hoi An becoming one of the leading tourist centers in the country and a prominent destination on the world tourism map.
Alongside economic development, the fields of education and training, healthcare, and public health have also achieved many outstanding accomplishments. Hundreds of tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites have been preserved, restored, and their value promoted. Quang Nam currently has two World Cultural Heritage sites: the ancient town of Hoi An and the My Son temple complex, along with the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.
New aspirations, new actions!
In the first months of 2025, along with the serious and decisive implementation of the revolution in restructuring and streamlining the political system's organizational apparatus according to the Party's policy, the socio-economic situation of Quang Nam continued to flourish. The province successfully organized a conference to implement the provincial planning plan, attracting many more investment projects with registered capital of tens of thousands of billions of VND; focused on directing the implementation of Notice No. 40/TB-VPCP dated February 8, 2025, of the Government Office on the conclusions of the Prime Minister at the working session with the leaders of Quang Nam province; accelerated the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households; and issued the Program and plan to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. To accelerate the disbursement of investment capital and support businesses, in order to ensure the target of double-digit economic growth in 2025, creating momentum for the following years.
The new era of development – the era of national progress, under the leadership of the Party – is the aspiration, belief, and also the imperative for action of the entire Party, army, and people of the country. Quang Nam must certainly walk hand in hand with the country, rising even stronger in this new phase, striving to become a prosperous province of the country by 2030 as planned.
To realize that development goal, in the coming period, in addition to continuing to strictly implement the Party's policy on streamlining the political system and reorganizing the administrative apparatus at all levels, Quang Nam is determined to comprehensively implement the contents of the Plan for implementing the Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which has been approved by the Prime Minister. Focus will be placed on completing the revised master plan for the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, urban planning, regional planning, and detailed planning for functional sub-zones. At the same time, active preparations will be made to soon commence construction of Chu Lai International Airport, the Cua Lo waterway project and logistics center, the high-tech agricultural zone; the projects to renovate and upgrade National Highways 14D, 14E, and 14B; centers for deep processing of silicate products, and a medicinal plant industrial center with Ngoc Linh ginseng as the main crop. Quang Nam is committed to attracting and encouraging domestic and foreign businesses to invest, while simultaneously creating the most favorable environment for businesses to register and develop their production and business activities. Quang Nam is determined to do its utmost to truly be a welcoming land for domestic and foreign investors.
Alongside this, Quang Nam continues to vigorously implement the three strategic breakthrough tasks outlined in the Resolution of the 22nd Provincial Party Congress; while simultaneously researching and adjusting the plan in accordance with the Central Government's orientation and the development requirements of Quang Nam, aligning with the viewpoints and objectives of the Provincial Planning. In particular, it effectively implements the Provincial Party Standing Committee's program to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation; considering this a top priority breakthrough and the main driving force for the rapid development of modern productive forces, the improvement of production relations, the innovation of governance methods, and socio-economic development, leading Quang Nam to rapid, strong, and sustainable development.
