From Resolution to Reality

In accordance with the Resolution of the Provincial People's Council, the Department of Agriculture has supported the family of Mr. Vu Tien Luc in Bang Luan commune in developing organic pomelo cultivation, yielding high economic efficiency.

In accordance with Resolution No. 22 dated December 9, 2021, of the Provincial People's Council, from 2022 to the present, Phu Tho province and the former Doan Hung district have provided over 20 billion VND in support for the development of pomelo cultivation and implemented several other projects such as: linking production and consumption of products; applying advanced techniques to build concentrated commercial pomelo growing areas...

Currently, the total area of pomelo orchards in Đoan Hùng is 2,706.2 hectares (860 hectares in Bằng Luân commune, 720 hectares in Tây Cốc commune, 543.2 hectares in Chí Đám commune, 427.8 hectares in Chân Mộng commune, and 155.2 hectares in Đoan Hùng commune), of which 2,421.6 hectares are in the production stage. The area of specialty Đoan Hùng pomelos is 652.1 hectares (28.3 hectares of Sửu pomelos and 623.8 hectares of Bằng Luân pomelos), while Diễn pomelos and other pomelo varieties cover 2,054.1 hectares.

The entire region has 325.65 hectares of pomelo orchards certified under VietGAP; 49 planting area codes have been issued and managed, covering an area of 1,007.82 hectares; Bang Luan and Chi Dam pomelos have achieved OCOP 4-star rating, and 6 products have achieved OCOP 3-star rating (Van Don pomelo, Minh Luong pomelo, Phuc Lai pomelo, Van Du pomelo, Bang Doan pomelo, and Phu Lam pomelo). The average yield reached 138.9 quintals/hectare, the total production reached 33,628.1 tons, with an estimated value of over 300 billion VND, making a significant contribution to increasing income and developing the rural economy.

Comrade Nguyen Song Toan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Bang Luan commune, assessed: "The resolutions of the Provincial People's Council and the People's Council of Doan Hung district on the development of pomelo trees have been correct, meeting the aspirations of the people, receiving high consensus, and bringing clear results. People actively invest and apply science and technology to all stages to improve productivity, appearance, and quality, implementing good agricultural standards, and producing organically with the goal of export. Not only focusing on pomelo fruit, pomelo growers and pomelo cooperatives have also boldly diversified products such as pomelo tea, pomelo jam, pomelo wine, pomelo flower essential oil... contributing to increasing economic value."

Following the merger, key localities in the pomelo-growing region continued to promote awareness among the people, especially pomelo growers and traders, about the value and prestige of the product; thereby enhancing their awareness of protecting and developing the Đoan Hùng pomelo brand. At the same time, they encouraged farmers to apply scientific and technological advancements to cultivation and care; expanding the growing area on a commercial scale, in line with the overall development plan of the province and localities.

In recent times, grapefruit growers and grapefruit production and trading cooperatives in the area have paid special attention to applying safe production processes such as VietGAP and organic farming methods, while continuing to protect the Đoan Hùng grapefruit brand; organizing production in a linked chain from planting - preservation - processing - consumption. They have also promoted the development of production in the direction of farms and family farms of appropriate scale.

During the period 2021-2026, the Resolution of the People's Council of the former Doan Hung district particularly emphasized and encouraged production linkages along the value chain, investing in deep processing. In the former Doan Hung district, there are 3 establishments and 1 company that have processed pomelo products such as pomelo peel jam (achieving OCOP 3-star product), pomelo essential oil, pomelo tea, pomelo wine, etc. Through this, the economic value has increased significantly, and the profits of participants in the chain have increased 2-3 times. Average income is approximately 110-120 million VND/hectare/year; in particular, some areas growing Bang Luan and Chi Dam pomelos achieve 400-650 million VND/hectare/year.

From Resolution to Reality

Investing in deep processing and product diversification from pomelo is one of the contents encouraged by resolutions of the Provincial People's Council and the former Đoan Hùng District People's Council to increase the economic value of pomelo trees. Comrade Nguyen Hoang Minh - Secretary of the Party Committee of Chi Dam commune, said: In the next few decades, pomelo will still be one of the key crops of the former Doan Hung area. For Chi Dam commune, this is not only in the Resolution

The first Party Congress of the commune, and the resolutions of the commune People's Council for the 2026-2031 term, will also set specific goals for the development of pomelo cultivation, focusing on tasks such as: promoting the application of advanced technology and improving product quality; developing specialty pomelos; supporting investment attraction in the field of deep processing; expanding production towards organic farming, concentrated production, and large-scale commercial production to serve export purposes...

To ensure the continued effective and sustainable development of the Doan Hung pomelo growing area, localities need to review and re-plan the Doan Hung pomelo growing area towards concentration, application of high technology, and adherence to VietGAP and organic standards; promote linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to build a sustainable value chain. Coordinate with specialized agencies to issue planting area codes for export purposes; increase the proportion of products undergoing preliminary processing; encourage mechanization in cultivation and harvesting to reduce costs, increase productivity, and ensure safety standards. Promote digital transformation in traceability, contributing to enhancing the Doan Hung pomelo brand in the market.
