From songs steeped in love

These "performances" in the heart of Hanoi are not just a "stage" for music, but also a space where human connection blends with the lyrics, awakening love, so that anyone passing by feels their heart warmed...

For many years, every Wednesday evening in the heart of Hanoi, the heartfelt songs of the members of the "Connecting with Love" Club have resonated. Together, they persistently perform each show, diligently raising funds for charity and providing timely support to many people in difficult circumstances.

A meeting point of compassionate connection.

The "Connecting with Love" Club was co-founded by individuals living and working in Hanoi who share a common philanthropic spirit. The members include Chairperson Do Hai Ha (born 1976), Vice Chairperson Do Thi Minh (born 1970), Treasurer Doan Thi Thuy (born 1976), singer Nguyen Thi Lan (born 1971), and accountant Nguyen Dinh Ngoc (born 1983) – the person who provided information for this article and currently works at the Hanoi Locomotive Factory as a train driver. Although each has their own work mission, they were fortunate enough to join hands to build the club on May 28, 2020 (headquartered at 23 Tay Son Street, Hanoi).

Each time they perform, they travel dozens of kilometers to raise money for charity. Their persistent efforts take them to locations such as: the lakeside area - Dong Xuan Market; Tan Mai Street - Den Lu Lake; Linh Nam Night Market... To date, the group has performed 185 shows and continues their journey of love with no end in sight. "We do charity work not only to give kindness and material things, but also as a way to live a good, responsible, and honest life," shared Mr. Ngoc.

Their path of "connecting with love" was not always smooth, and there were even times when tears were shed due to external hurt, but these people, full of kindness for the community, persevered through all difficulties, striving towards the traditional humanistic values of the Vietnamese people.

Songs of love, heartwarming human kindness.

Many people have stopped to listen to voices that, though not from professional artists, were full of emotion and moved the heart, emanating from street corners, lakeside areas, or near cafes... as the city lights came on.

Anh Ngoc recounted: "During the day, we are all busy with work and burdened by the struggle for 'food, clothing, and shelter,' but when we do volunteer work, everyone feels joyful, only hoping to help those in need..."

Many times they had to reach the assembly point without having time to eat, so they had to buy snacks to tide them over. Sometimes, while on their way to perform, they would encounter vulnerable people and share some food and drink with them as a gesture of goodwill.

Many things surprised them: a street vendor slipped them fifty thousand dong, a disabled person struggling to make a living donated a hundred thousand dong, a child over 10 years old ran out of the house with a piggy bank asking for donations (parents allowed them to break the piggy bank), handing over the entire 656,000 dong to the group. Even someone from the South who came to Hanoi for medical treatment took out their wallet and gave a donation, saying, "This is life. Kindness needs to be multiplied..."

Every Wednesday evening, members of the "Connecting with Love" Club travel throughout Hanoi to sing for charity.

Anh Ngoc confided: "The people have been very welcoming. Some have offered to contribute their singing; some have carefully verified the information and purpose of the group before donating 5 million VND; some have given a few hundred thousand VND and left, but somehow they came back to contribute more... It is known that, besides these positive things, the group has sometimes faced negative and harsh criticism from some passersby... causing the female members to feel hurt and cry. But, thinking about the meaning that the club aims for, they encourage each other to regain their spirits, always grateful and happy because so many benefactors, audience members, and philanthropists have opened their hearts to share and support the group, giving them confidence on their journey to spread kindness... "Sometimes we sing until our voices are hoarse, walk until our legs ache, and we are tired, but happy. Many audience members think we work hard, but it is precisely when we contribute a little effort to life that we naturally feel healthier," Anh Ngoc said.

From the heart of Hanoi to the beloved regions of our homeland.

All donated materials are used solely for charitable purposes by the Connecting Hearts Club. On numerous occasions, members of the group have contributed their own money to support those in need. To ensure that the aid reaches the right people, Mr. Ngoc personally verifies and filters information about the circumstances the group intends to assist.

With a transparent and clearly defined charitable model, the club has helped many individuals and groups in difficult circumstances in the area – hospitals in Hanoi and neighboring provinces. Some needy individuals received timely support, with some receiving between 10 and 20 million VND. On average, each case received around 10 million VND. For example, the family of Ms. Vu Thi Loc, residing in Tran Yen, Yen Bai, had their house completely destroyed by fire; Nguyen Thanh Nam, a child with a spinal cord tumor, is being treated at K3 Hospital in Tan Trieu; and an Indian yoga instructor living in Vietnam was involved in a traffic accident and had no family members by her side, all of whom received timely support from the group.

They also carried out many large-scale charitable trips: providing relief to flood victims in Central Vietnam in 2020; supporting communities during the Covid-19 pandemic, distributing 10,000 masks, essential supplies, food, etc., in Bac Ninh, Van Lam, Hung Yen, and other locations. They also organized Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations for children at social welfare centers in Ha Nam, Yen Bai, and Dien Bien provinces.

Before implementing the program, representatives from the club proactively contacted school principals, sought permission from local authorities, and obtained factual information and statistics on each gift item: from sandals, warm jackets, packages of biscuits, bowls and chopsticks, books and notebooks... These included the program at Sao Mai Kindergarten in De Xu Phinh commune, Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai) in September 2023 (90 million VND); and Muong Tung Kindergarten in Muong Cha (Dien Bien) in September 2024 (120 million VND). "We usually start early, gathering funds from about a dozen singing performances. Once, we even went to a factory in Thai Binh to get warm jackets at cost price, saving every penny we could to help the children," Mr. Ngoc shared.

The group also visited a leprosy colony in Bac Ninh to donate gifts to the patients. There, some had amputated arms and legs, or deformed bodies... "They were very lonely. When they cried, we also shed tears. It was heartbreaking...", Mr. Ngoc recalled with emotion.

The "Connecting with Love" Club has received numerous commendations from local leaders and authorities in the areas where the group conducts charitable work.

For a long time, the club has meticulously carried out its charitable activities, building a reputation and gradually expanding its "connecting hearts" initiative. It has found a peaceful place to slow down, reflect, and maintain faith in "truthfulness" amidst the hustle and bustle of social life. On this journey, the Connecting Hearts Club has not only brought together kind-hearted individuals but has also become a "meeting point of compassion" for many, receiving commendations, honors, and profound recognition from local government leaders.

Many individuals wrote handwritten letters of gratitude, among which the following verses stand out: "Live with a kind and virtuous heart / Use virtue to build a foundation for the future / Use hard work to build bridges of righteousness / Use profound compassion to help others…" (excerpt from a letter from the family of Mrs. Do Thi Vuon).

As Mr. Ngoc said, they sing not to gain recognition, but to "see" and "remember" that goodness always exists around us. It's also a way for the community to work together and a way for them to remind each other of the value of compassion, making these "performances" in the heart of Hanoi not just a "stage" for music, but also a space where human kindness blends into the lyrics, awakening love, so that anyone passing by feels their heart warmed...
