The warm embrace of "godmothers"

The "Godmother" program, launched by the Vietnam Women's Union, has become a loving support system for thousands of orphaned and disadvantaged children nationwide. Thanks to the collective efforts of the community, many children have been given the strength to overcome adversity, confidently continue their education, and nurture their dreams.

Besides providing material support, the "Godmother" program also gave Truc Ngan a source of emotional support.

The "mothers" of love

In a small house nestled deep within residential area 13, Phan Thiet ward, the handover of support to Pham Ngoc Truc Ngan took place in a warm and intimate atmosphere. Truc Ngan, a young student in the 4th grade at Duc Nghia Primary School, shyly received the support gift from the Phan Thiet Ward Women's Union and representatives from the VFC500 (Vietnam Family Coaching) organization. Her eyes lit up with joy mixed with shyness upon hearing that she would receive 3 million VND per month, starting in May 2026 until she turns 18.

For many people, that amount of money might not seem like much, but for Ngan's family, it represents a great source of hope. Behind that small figure lies a particularly difficult family situation, a struggle for survival that at times threatened to interrupt her education.

The handover of support to Truc Ngan is one of many meaningful activities that the Phan Thiet Ward Women's Union has carried out recently as part of the "Godmother" program. According to Ms. Bui Thuy Xuan Toan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phan Thiet Ward: The "Godmother" program has profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating a spirit of love and compassion, and providing strength to orphaned children and those in difficult circumstances. Through the program, with the consensus of the community, many children have been given opportunities to study and develop in a safe environment, contributing to ensuring children's rights and mitigating social problems arising in the locality. However, besides the achievements, mobilizing resources still faces many difficulties. The number of children needing support remains high, while the ability to connect with social resources does not fully meet the actual needs. Many orphaned children and children in difficult circumstances still do not have access to the program to receive regular and long-term support.

Nevertheless, with a sense of responsibility and dedication, the Women's Union of Phan Thiet Ward continues to maintain and expand the "Godmother" model. As of July 2025, the Union had sponsored 8 orphaned children and children in difficult circumstances. From the beginning of 2026 until now, the Union has continued to connect and support 2 more new cases. After 5 children reached 18 years old and completed the program, the Union is still maintaining support for 5 children with amounts ranging from 200,000 VND to 3 million VND per month.

A bridge of compassion in society.

Based on the practical results at the grassroots level, it's clear that the "Godmother" program is not just a simple welfare support activity, but also a bridge spreading the spirit of compassion in society. What's valuable about the program is its persistent and long-term support. Those who sponsor the children not only provide financial assistance but also offer care and encouragement, giving them the confidence to strive for a better life. This sharing has helped many children overcome their insecurities, confidently pursue their studies, and integrate into the community. For Pham Ngoc Truc Ngan, the monthly support of 3 million VND will help cover her tuition, living expenses, and essential needs. More importantly, it gives her the motivation to continue attending school and nurture her dream of a better future.

From small homes like Ngân's, the "Godmother" program is spreading profound humanitarian values day by day through practical and loving actions. This is also clear evidence of the role of women's organizations in caring for social welfare, protecting children, and fostering solidarity in the community.

Hopefully, in the future, more organizations, businesses, and philanthropists will continue to join hands with women's associations at all levels to extend this journey of love, helping more disadvantaged children receive protection and encouragement to confidently move forward on their path of learning and growth.
