Turn iPhone 16 Pro 128 GB into 1 TB by yourself

YouTube channel KingSener posted a video showing how they upgraded the storage of the iPhone 16 Pro from 128GB to 1TB.

The iPhone 16 Pro has a starting storage capacity of 128 GB, along with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB options with prices in Vietnam starting at VND 28.99 million.

First, KingSener disassembled the iPhone 16 Pro by removing the screws on either side of the USB-C port on the bottom. Then, he put tape around the edges and used pure alcohol to dissolve the adhesive holding the rear glass to the side frame.

The next step is to remove the rear panel by using the suction cup to attach the rear glass and pulling it up. Next, remove the cover that houses the internal flash memory as well as the wireless charging components. In addition to the cover, KingSener also removed the cables and screws that connected the components before disassembling each individual component.

Proceed to peel off the coating on the surface of the logic board next to the battery. At this time, removing the 128 GB NAND flash memory attached to the logic board is done by CNC machine because the NAND flash chip is bonded with epoxy to the logic board and will not easily peel off due to heat.

The pads for soldering the chip to the board are now visible. The job that needs to be done is to remove any dirt from the surface of the pads and clean them.

Once the pad is cleaned, the next step is to install the new 1TB NAND flash memory before performing the steps to update the BIOS and memory to the motherboard using specific techniques until the new memory is properly installed. All that remains to do is to reassemble the motherboard.

Connect the modified iPhone 16 Pro to the MacBook to install iOS. KingSener checked the storage capacity of this product by going to Settings > General > About, where the internal memory is shown to have a storage capacity of 1.02 TB.

To evaluate the "achievement", KingSener used the AnTuTu benchmark tool to evaluate and record the product's read and write speeds have both improved, with the overall score increasing from 51,398 to 81,701, with the center of the screen being 1TB and the right being 128GB of memory.
