12th Vietnam-Russia Consular Consultations: Comprehensive and Substantive

On November 6th, the 12th Consular Consultative Meeting between Vietnam and Russia took place in Hanoi, co-chaired by Doan Hoang Minh, Director of the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Aleksey Vladimirovich Klimov, Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Also attending the meeting were the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Professor Bezdetko; the Russian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Sadykov; and the Russian Consul General in Da Nang, MG Mizonova, along with representatives from each side's Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

At the meeting, the two sides had a comprehensive and substantive exchange on consular issues such as immigration and residence of citizens of both countries in each other's territories, consular protection, the operation of consular offices, and other matters of mutual interest. Both sides affirmed their commitment to continue actively cooperating closely to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral consular work.

Against the backdrop of continuously strengthening and expanding Vietnam-Russia cooperation, consular work and citizen protection continue to make practical contributions to promoting the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, serving the common interests of the people of both nations.

The mechanism of regular consular consultations between the two sides has become an important forum for exchange, as documented in the Cooperation Plan between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs . To date, the two sides have successfully held 12 consular consultations, thereby enhancing understanding of each other's policies and laws, and resolving many difficulties in the implementation of consular work. This is also an effective channel for exchanging experiences between functional units of the two countries in the process of carrying out their respective functions and tasks.

Building on the achievements of the 11th Consular Consultative Meeting held in Moscow in 2024, both sides agreed that this meeting continued to make substantial progress in resolving consular issues and opened up new avenues for future cooperation.
