Around 8 PM, at the Vinh Binh Commune Police Station, officers, soldiers, and militia members quickly checked their numbers, vehicles, and support equipment before setting off on patrol. Everything was ready, and Major Le Tan Loi, the patrol team leader, gave the order to depart. Ten members were assigned to patrol Binh Minh and Binh An hamlets. The inter-hamlet road was quiet and deserted late at night, seemingly only the sound of the patrol team's motorbike engines could be heard. Occasionally, the team stopped to check areas where crowds usually gathered or where petty theft had occurred... "Nighttime is when criminals easily take advantage of the situation to commit petty theft and cause disturbances. Therefore, the force must constantly monitor the area to handle incidents promptly," Major Loi said.
Night patrols are not only for dealing with violations but also for prevention. Seeing the police presence regularly makes criminals more cautious. Near midnight, the patrol team spotted a house with a vehicle parked outside. They quickly went inside to remind residents to carefully protect their property to prevent theft. A thick night mist began to settle on the country roads. Despite being tired after many hours of continuous travel, the team members maintained high levels of concentration.
Danh Quang, a member of the patrol team, shared: “I have been involved in maintaining security and order at the local level for over 20 years. Although the work is quite tiring, especially during the long nights, thinking about the peace and safety of the people, everyone tries their best to complete their nhiệm vụ. There have been many nights patrolling in the rain, with clothes soaked, but we still have to cover the entire area,” Quang said.
Besides combating crime, the patrol force also assists residents in many unexpected situations. Some nights they help people whose vehicles break down in the middle of the road, other times they remind people to lock their doors carefully. These seemingly small actions bring a sense of security to the local people and contribute to preventing law violations from occurring early on.
Ms. Do Thi Tuyet Nuoi, a resident of Binh Minh hamlet, said that the security and order situation in the area is stable. Previously, petty thefts occasionally occurred, but they haven't happened in recent years. "The officers and soldiers patrol very hard. Every night I see them running all over the neighborhood. With the police patrolling regularly, the people feel much safer," Ms. Nuoi shared.
The actions of the patrol force have contributed to building a close-to-the-people image for the local police force. According to the leader of Vinh Binh Commune Police, in recent times, the security and order situation in the area has been basically maintained, and the number of thefts and disturbances has decreased significantly thanks to increased nighttime patrols.
To meet the demands of the post-merger mission, the commune police proactively developed a plan to assign forces to each area, coordinating with the military , civil defense, local security forces, and self-governing groups. Key routes, border areas, and densely populated areas were subject to increased patrols during peak hours.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cong Thuc, Head of the Vinh Binh Commune Police, said that after the merger, the Vinh Binh area is quite large, with many interwoven canals and waterways, increasing the workload. Many areas were previously quite far from the center, making management more difficult. However, this also motivates the police force to innovate its operations. “We are determined to stay close to the grassroots, grasping the situation early and from afar. Every officer and soldier enhances their sense of responsibility, ensuring they are not caught off guard in any situation. To maintain security, order, and social safety in a large area like Vinh Binh, the force has to divide into many teams to patrol throughout the night. Some nights, the officers don't return to the unit until almost dawn,” Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cong Thuc said.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cong Thuc, thanks to patrolling and closely monitoring the situation from early on and from afar, the commune police force has been able to promptly prevent and disperse gatherings causing disturbances, dismantle cases of illegal possession of military weapons, and detect individuals using drugs... contributing to maintaining local peace and security.
Around 2 AM, the patrol team was still patrolling the streets, maintaining peace for the people, and then breathed a sigh of relief because there were no unexpected incidents and security and order were ensured...
| “Thanks to the unity and determination of the entire political system, especially the police force, peace has been brought to the villages. This result is partly due to the presence of patrol teams that patrol through the night, which not only contribute to reducing crime and maintaining security and order but also strengthen the people's trust in the local security forces…,” said Vo Thanh Xuan, Standing Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Binh commune. |
