"Many people ask me, 'How can I still dare to go on stage when I'm like this?'" - Dinh Viet Tuong recounts the paradox of having TICS syndrome but also a burning passion for singing.

But that paradox is also a miracle. Dinh Viet Tuong (23 years old) optimistically says that if God takes something away from you, He will give you something else in return. God gave him TICS syndrome, which is almost incurable, but gave him a wonderful gift: a passion for singing.

There were moments when he was completely immersed in the song, in the story, and the illness eased its grip on him a little.

"The wall has already burned that cocoon."

Tuổi Trẻ newspaper met Đinh Viết Tường again after three years. His TICS condition is now more severe, with more frequent, intense, and noisy seizures, but Tường still goes out, meets people, and chats. His illness is worse, but Tường is used to it. Moreover, he seems much happier and more confident.

Wherever Tường appears, people notice him, some with unfriendly glances, but he's still happy when some young people and adults recognize him, saying, "Look, it's Tường!" and praising him, "Tường sings so well, Tường, keep it up!" There are also compliments on social media like, "Tường, you're extraordinary!" which motivate him.

Three years ago, when Tuong first spoke with Tuoi Tre newspaper, he said he was still living in a cocoon and trying to break free. But after three years, things have changed.

"Now that cocoon is gone. I burned it," Tuong said with a radiant smile.

But those three years weren't entirely smooth sailing for Tuong. After unsuccessfully auditioning for several entertainment programs and failing the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, he returned to his hometown in Quang Tri and decided not to go back to Ho Chi Minh City. He planned to work as a dance teacher in his hometown, earning just enough to get by, and living a life away from the spotlight.

But Tuong's connection with the stage didn't end there. When the "All-Round Rookie" program announced its casting earlier this year, Tuong was encouraged by his friends to participate. A comment suggesting he audition received 1,000 interactions. And Tuong boldly registered to compete, returned to Ho Chi Minh City, stayed in his old house again, and practiced dancing and singing while waiting to compete.

Throughout the process, Tuong had to struggle with the feeling of discouragement that could overwhelm him at any moment. On the day of the casting, before going on stage to compete, he became even more discouraged when he saw that all the other contestants were beautiful, sang well, danced well, and most importantly, were "ordinary".

Stepping onto the stage, Tuong simply gave his all, sharing his honest feelings. Judge ST Son Thach commented, "You've already shown your all-around talent by coming here today." He was one of the 100 contestants to advance to the next round.

Although he didn't make it into the top 30 of the All-Round Rookie competition, Tuong still reaped the rewards of his efforts. His TikTok channel gained 300,000 followers. And even more valuable were the opportunities to sing.

Tuong's first major show was Bui Cong Nam's concert at the Youth Cultural Center (Ho Chi Minh City) on May 23rd, with about 800 attendees. On June 13th, he was invited to sing at singer Hien Thuc's concert at the Khong Ten tea room.

Tường also remembers being invited to watch the BOF showcase, where he got to meet his lovely "all-around rookie" friends again, and everyone happily took photos with Tường.

As someone who loves Nguyen Nhat Anh's stories, Tuong likened it to: "Mr. Bui Cong Nam, the program team, the new recruits, and especially the audience are like golden flowers on green grass. I feel like I'm walking through a green meadow full of thorns, and meeting Mr. Nam, he's like a golden flower on green grass."

Having the opportunity to sing the song "I Am Extraordinary" as a duet with his older brother Bui Cong Nam, Dinh Viet Tuong felt greatly comforted by the lyrics and the sentiments expressed by the younger man.

"My small feet don't want to go far" refers to when he only sang in front of a mirror, not daring to sing in front of others. "I'm afraid of tripping and falling, and not being able to get back up" refers to when he didn't dare to compete for fear of being ridiculed. "And now, today, I stand here" - he admits he hasn't succeeded yet, hasn't achieved anything, but being on stage makes him happy.

And in "The Miracle Within Me," for Tuong, the miracle is that a person with TICS syndrome has such a burning passion for music .

"Many people asked me, 'How can you still dare to go on stage when you're in this condition?' I felt hurt because I knew people might just pity me instead of appreciating my talent."

"But during those concerts, the audience encouraged me, saying, 'Be confident, you have to sing well to touch people's hearts. Because if you don't touch them, they won't cry,'" - Tuong explained.

Thanks to the fortunate encounters from the All-Round Rookie and the subsequent memorable experiences, Tuong is confident he can make a good living in Saigon this time around. Besides singing on stage, he also earns a living by singing on TikTok, modeling, and more.

He admitted that his first few singing performances still had many shortcomings, and he wanted to persevere in practicing his voice and performance skills to be worthy of the audience's support.

After the All-Round Rookie competition , Viet Tuong participated in the "Melody of Dreams" program on Vinh Long Television. He sang the song "I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass" and moved judges Kim Tu Long, Hamlet Truong, and Ngoc Anh to tears.

He revealed that a famous musician had promised to give him a new song written specifically about him. Tuong was very happy and eagerly awaited the day he could sing that song.

Huong Tram praised Tuong's performance of "Let Me Be Closer to You " as "the best cover I've ever heard" and added: "You sing so well, you're so strong and resilient. Live happily and keep loving music. I hope one day I can meet you and hear you sing this song live."
