England call up striker playing in Saudi Arabia

On May 23, the England team announced the list of players preparing for friendly matches and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Notable on the list is the appearance of Ivan Toney, a striker who plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Ahli. The 29-year-old player had a very successful season, scoring 29 goals in 43 matches in all competitions. Toney also contributed greatly to Al Ahli winning the AFC Champions League.

Toney has made six appearances for the Three Lions. He was part of England's squad for Euro 2024, but mainly played as a substitute.

Regarding the decision to call up Toney, coach Tuchel said: "Ivan deserves to be in the squad. I believe in his ability, especially when Ivan has scored more than 20 goals this season. Ivan won a major title with the AFC Champions League and made an important contribution through goals and assists."

Coach Tuchel also called up many key players for this training session, including Kyle Walker, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka. Meanwhile, the duo Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden were not named.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has also been named in the squad. Chalobah has made seven appearances in the last eight Premier League games, cementing his place as a key player in Enzo Maresca's side.

England's next fixture will be a trip to Andorra for a 2026 World Cup qualifier on June 7. They will then return home to host Senegal in a friendly on June 10.
