Brazil still dreams of Ancelotti.

With the 2026 World Cup just over a year away, the likelihood of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) sacking coach Dorival Junior is growing.

Brazil wants to resume negotiations with Ancelotti.

Brazil's bitter 1-4 defeat to Argentina in Buenos Aires on March 26th angered many members of the CBF leadership. According to Globo , Dorival's position as head coach is being questioned by the CBF. Prior to this, Brazil had performed unimpressively in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

The defeat against Argentina will therefore likely be the "last straw" for Dorival's future. For the first time in history, Brazil conceded four goals in a World Cup qualifying match. Even Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior stated that Brazil needed to "reconsider everything" after the game.

Dorival was essentially a last-resort solution for the CBF last year, after his predecessors like Tite and Fernando Diniz proved disappointing.

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was recently re-elected, needs a new coach to restore credibility and appease public opinion. Rodrigues has publicly expressed his ambition to recruit Carlo Ancelotti in 2023.

The Italian strategist is currently Rodrigues' top choice after Pep Guardiola. Recently, legend Ronaldo Nazario also revealed that Ancelotti had negotiated to coach Brazil, but Real Madrid later decided to keep him.

Currently, as Rodrigues and his colleagues once again search for a replacement, Ancelotti's name is being mentioned. However, Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid runs until 2026, and the FIFA Club World Cup takes place in June, are major obstacles making it difficult for Brazil to convince the Italian coach.

To negotiate with Ancelotti, the CBF will have to wait until the end of this season. If Ancelotti leads Real to a title, President Florentino Perez will most likely keep him on.

Ancelotti himself has stated that he wants to complete his current contract with Real. However, if "Los Blancos" finish the season without winning La Liga or the Champions League, it would be no surprise if Ancelotti were sacked.

Besides Ancelotti, former Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis is also a candidate. However, many are concerned that the current Flamengo coach lacks the experience to lead Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.

The goals in Argentina's crushing victory over Brazil: In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the morning of March 26th, Brazil lost 1-4 to Argentina.
