Tuition-free industries
According to Article 15 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP, the majors that are exempt from tuition fees for students include:
- Majoring in Ho Chi Minh Thought and Marxism-Leninism.
- Specialized in Tuberculosis, Leprosy, Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Forensic Assessment, Pathology at public training institutions according to the State's orders.
In addition to the above disciplines, students in one of the following cases are also exempted from tuition fees when attending public higher education institutions:
- Students of the recruitment system.
– Students studying at vocational and higher education institutions of ethnic minorities whose father or mother or both parents or grandparents (in the case of living with grandparents) belong to poor and near-poor households according to regulations of the Prime Minister.
– Students of very few ethnic minorities specified in Clause 1, Article 2 of Decree No. 57/2017/ND-CP dated May 09, 5 of the Government stipulating the priority policy of enrollment and study support for preschool children, pupils and students of very few ethnic minorities living in areas with difficult or extremely difficult socio-economic conditions according to current regulations of competent authorities.
Courses receive a 70% discount on tuition fees
In addition to the tuition-free industries, there are now many industries that reduce tuition fees for students up to 70%. Specifically, in Clause 1, Article 16 of Decree 81, the majors that reduce tuition fees by 70% for students include:
Traditional and specific arts in vocational education institutions, public and private higher education institutions with cultural and artistic training include:
+ National musical theater musicians
+ Hue traditional musicians, Southern folk music
+ Actors of theater, theater, ca tru art, folk singing performance, Bai Choi art, performing traditional musical instruments
– Majors in court music, tuong, cheo, cai luong, dance, circus.
- A number of arduous, hazardous and dangerous occupations for vocational education according to the list of arduous, hazardous and dangerous occupations prescribed by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.
In addition to the above majors, the 70% tuition fee reduction regime is also applied to students who are ethnic minorities (apart from very few ethnic minorities) in extremely difficult villages/hamlets, zone III communes in mountainous ethnic minority areas, and extremely difficult communes in coastal areas of islands.
Pilot scholarships for students of basic sciences
The enrollment season in 2023, many universities offer tuition support programs and scholarships to attract candidates to apply for basic sciences.
From the academic year 2022 - 2023, Hanoi National University has piloted scholarships for students of basic sciences under the University of Natural Sciences, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In which, the University of Natural Sciences has 9 supported majors, including: Mathematical Talent, Physics Talent, Chemistry Talent, Biology Talent, Natural Geography, Geology, Water Resources and Environment, Oceanography and Nuclear Engineering Technology. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has 9 majors: Han Nom, History, Philosophy, Religion, Politics, Anthropology, Vietnamese Studies, Linguistics and Literature.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (HCMC National University) also supports 35% of tuition fees for students in 9 majors: Philosophy, Religion, History, Geography, Information - Library, Archives, Italian Language, Spanish Language, and Russian Language.
