The last time the Vietnamese team played at Thong Nhat was in the Four Nations friendly tournament in September 2022. At that time, coach Park Hang-seo and his team faced Afghanistan, Singapore and India.

The Vietnamese team performed convincingly with three wins in a row. Specifically, Mr. Park's team won 2-0 against Afghanistan, 4-0 against Singapore and 3-0 against India.

Vietnam's 9 goals were scored by 7 different players, with Pham Tuan Hai and Nguyen Van Quyet each scoring 2 goals. After three years, Van Quyet has left the team, Van Toan and Ho Tan Tai are recovering from injuries. Phan Van Duc rarely appears, and Nguyen Thanh Nhan has yet to make a significant impression. On the other hand, Tuan Hai continues to maintain his high performance, while Khuat Van Khang has grown more and more under coach Kim Sang-sik.

Unlike 2022, this time the Vietnamese team returns to Thong Nhat in an official tournament. According to the original schedule, the second leg match against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers will take place at the opponent's home ground on October 14.

However, due to domestic turmoil, the Nepal Football Federation has asked to cede the hosting rights and proposed to hold this match in Vietnam. The AFC has agreed to the above plan.

Thus, the Vietnamese team will play both matches against Nepal at home, the first leg on October 9 at Binh Duong Stadium and the second leg on October 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium. This is a favorable opportunity for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team to win all 6 points, thereby nurturing the hope of competing for the top spot in Group F with Malaysia.

In the past, the Vietnamese team met Nepal in the 2004 Asian Cup qualifiers, when we won 5-0 in the first leg and 2-0 in the second leg. The rematch after more than 20 years promises to bring many emotions, especially when Thong Nhat Stadium once again witnessed the atmosphere of top-level football at the national team level.
