U.16 women's Vietnam stopped before Thailand
Entering the semi-final match of the 2026 Southeast Asian U.16 Women's Championship against Thailand U.16, head coach of the Vietnam U.16 Women's Team Okiyama Masahiko continued to use the 4-2-3-1 formation, with 8/11 positions in the starting lineup in the match against Myanmar U.16 Women's Team remaining the same.
Three players were arranged to adjust the starting lineup including defender Nguyen Duong Phuong Nghi (number 2) and 2 midfielders Diep Xuan Trang (18), Do Thi Ha Vi (19).
Evaluating the opponent U.16 women's team Thailand before the match, coach Okiyama Masahiko said: "Thailand is a strong team with an organized and individual style of football. We carefully analyzed the opponent to have the best preparation to help the players confidently compete."
As predicted by the coaching board of the Vietnam U.16 women's team, the Thai team quickly put pressure on goalkeeper Cam My's goal and scored in the 6th minute, after a rebound from goalkeeper Cam My's block.

After conceding an early goal, the players in red shirts regrouped and organized a counterattack. In the 16th minute, in a chaotic situation in front of goalkeeper Pimlapat's goal (1), Aunchidtha (17) unexpectedly put the ball into the net, bringing a goal to the Vietnam U.16 women's team.
In the 24th minute, head coach Thidarat sent Monthida (16) onto the field and immediately coordinated before scoring the goal to raise the score to 2-1 for the Thai U.16 women's team in the 43rd minute.
In the last minutes of the first half, the players of the Vietnam U.16 women's team played without concentration, allowing Charlotte (14) to have a chance to successfully score, widening the score gap to 3-1.
Bronze medal decision
At the beginning of the second half, the U.16 women's team of Vietnam made adjustments on the left wing when Truong Thi Thao Nguyen (8), Ha Yen Nhi (5), Ngo Hai Yen replaced Le Thi Hong Thai (17), Phan Thi Thu Phuong (7) and Nguyen Thi Linh Chi (9).

With the added and reinforced force, the U.16 women's team of Vietnam tried to organize an attack by raising the formation to disperse the opponent. The red shirt team also had a few coordinated attacks but their finishing ability was not really good enough to make it difficult for goalkeeper Pimlapat (1).
In the 80th minute, Trinh Yen Nhi (15) was brought in to replace Diep Xuan Trang (18) to strengthen the defense as the game continued to favor the Thai U16 women's players. However, the Vietnamese U16 women's team could not turn the situation around and accepted defeat with a final score of 1-3.
With this result, the Vietnam U.16 women's team will compete for third place in the 2025 Southeast Asian U.16 Women's Championship, which will take place at 3:30 p.m. on August 29. The opponent of coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team will be determined after the semi-final match between host U.16 women's Indonesia and U.16 women's Australia.
