Coach Cristiano Roland and his team have just secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship, an achievement that qualifies them for the 2026 U17 World Cup.
However, before the draw took place at 8 PM on May 21st ( Hanoi time), the FIFA website attracted attention by announcing the seeding list without the name of the Vietnam U17 team.
China's U17 team is also absent from this list, despite reaching the final of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship.

Interestingly, the U17 teams of Indonesia and Yemen were eliminated in the group stage of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship, but were seeded in groups 2 and 4 respectively for the 2026 U17 World Cup.
To date, FIFA has not provided an official explanation for the absence of the Vietnam U17 and China U17 teams from the initial group stage list.

According to the regulations, the 48 participating teams are divided into 4 seeded groups based on their performance in the last 5 U17 World Cups, including 2015, 2017, 2019, 2023 and 2025.
Teams with no track record or those participating in the tournament for the first time usually fall into the lower groups.
For the Vietnam U17 team, since this is their first time participating in the U17 World Cup, they are likely to be in seed group 4 along with Montenegro, Serbia, Romania, Greece, Uruguay, Tanzania, Algeria, Jamaica, Cuba, and two undetermined African representatives.
The 2026 U17 World Cup finals will take place in Qatar from November 19th to December 13th, 2026. This will be the 21st U17 World Cup and the second time the tournament has adopted the 48-team format.
Asia has nine representatives participating, with Qatar taking part as the host nation.
Starting in 2025, FIFA will organize the U17 Men's World Cup annually, instead of every two years as before.
