Vietnam U17 suffered a heavy defeat against Japan U17.

Facing U17 Japan in the second match of Group D at the 2023 AFC U17 Championship, U17 Vietnam quickly found themselves at a disadvantage. Yukata Michiwaki put U17 Japan ahead with a close-range header in the third minute, during the first attack of the match. This was a situation where Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players failed to organize their defense properly.

After conceding a goal, the Vietnam U17 team played calmly. Nguyen Cong Phuong and his teammates tried to keep possession, coordinate in midfield, and maintain an even playing field against their opponents. However, the Vietnam U17 team was unable to create any dangerous attacking opportunities.
