Facing U17 Japan in the second match of Group D at the 2023 AFC U17 Championship, U17 Vietnam quickly found themselves at a disadvantage. After conceding a goal, the Vietnam U17 team played calmly. Nguyen Cong Phuong and his teammates tried to keep possession, coordinate in midfield, and maintain an even playing field against their opponents. However, the Vietnam U17 team was unable to create any dangerous attacking opportunities.
