Ukraine attacked, Russia immediately responded with 43 cruise missiles

Late on the evening of September 20, the Russian military thwarted a large-scale suicide drone attack launched by Kiev forces.

In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry said air defense forces intercepted 19 drones over the Black Sea and Crimea, and three others over the Belgorod, Kursk and Oryol regions.

“An attempt by the Kiev authorities to carry out an attack on facilities on Russian soil using drones was thwarted. Russian air defense forces destroyed 19 Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea, Crimea and three more over the Kursk, Belgorod and Oryol regions,” the statement read.

However, Russian media did not report any casualties or damage in any area after Ukraine's large-scale drone attack.

In response to Ukraine's attack, early on September 21, a series of explosions shook the Ukrainian capital Kiev and several other regions including Lviv, Rivne, Kharkov, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia and Khmelnitsky.

Ukrainian media reported that the Russian military launched several missile attacks. The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that its air defenses intercepted 36 of 43 Russian cruise missiles. The missiles were launched from 10 strategic bombers.

“The Russian military attacked Ukraine with Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 air-launched cruise missiles. The total number of missiles reported was 43 cruise missiles, fired from T-95MS strategic bombers in the area west of Engels,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.

“The missiles were launched in several waves. They entered Ukrainian airspace from different directions, constantly changing their course along the route,” the statement added.

According to SF , Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks to compensate for the failure of its counter-offensive on the front line.
