Late on September 20th, the Russian military thwarted a large-scale suicide drone attack launched by Kyiv forces.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defenses intercepted 19 drones over the Black Sea and Crimea, and three others over the Belgorod, Kursk, and Oryol regions.
“Attempts by the Kiev authorities to launch an attack on facilities on Russian soil using drones have been thwarted. Russian air defenses destroyed 19 Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea and Crimea, and three others over the Kursk, Belgorod, and Oryol regions,” the statement read.
However, Russian media did not report any casualties or damage in any area following the large-scale drone attack by Ukraine.
In response to the Ukrainian attack, early on September 21, a series of explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and several other regions including Lviv, Rivne, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia and Khmelnitsky.
Ukrainian media reported that the Russian military had carried out several missile attacks. The Ukrainian Air Force stated in a press release that its air defenses intercepted 36 out of 43 Russian cruise missiles. These missiles were launched from 10 strategic bombers.
"The Russian military attacked Ukraine with air-launched Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles. A total of 43 cruise missiles were reported, fired from T-95MS strategic bombers in the area west of Engels," the Ukrainian Air Force stated.
The statement added: “The missiles were launched in multiple waves. They entered Ukrainian airspace from several different directions, constantly changing their trajectory along the route.”
Ukrainian military equipment was destroyed by Russian forces on the front lines.
According to SF , Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks to compensate for the failure of its counteroffensive on the front lines. Although some Ukrainian counterattacks have inflicted losses, they have failed to break through Russian defenses or put any real pressure on Moscow.
