"Updated information indicates that the enemy lost 96 air-launched cruise missiles due to the Ukrainian attack on the Engels-2 air base of the Russian Aerospace Forces on March 20, including those lost due to secondary explosions," the Ukrainian General Staff announced on March 27.
According to Ukrainian military calculations, Russia plans to use this ammunition for three missile attacks in March and April.
Furthermore, the attack on aircraft fuel storage sites destroyed significant reserves, negatively impacting Russia's combat operational capability.
Engels-2 is the main base for Russian strategic aircraft. It houses Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, and Tu-160 bombers, as well as FAB guided bombs and cruise missiles.
From this base, Russian bombers have launched large-scale missile attacks on Ukraine since the conflict broke out more than three years ago.
The Ukrainian General Staff stated that the explosion at Engels-2 airport on the night of March 19th and early morning of March 20th was the result of a coordinated attack between the Ukrainian Security Service and Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Center for Combating Disinformation, then suggested that Russia's missile depots may have been destroyed after the attack.
