On the morning of May 20th, the Standing Committee of the Hai Phong City Farmers' Association organized a rally and communication event to commemorate World No Tobacco Day on May 31st and the National No Tobacco Week 2026 (from May 25th to 31st).
The ceremony was attended by Comrade Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, representatives from the Ministry of Health , the Department of Health, the City Farmers' Association, and a large number of farmer members.

Speaking at the rally, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association Nguyen Xuan Dinh emphasized that the theme for World No Tobacco Day and National No Tobacco Week 2026 is: "Unmasking the False Attraction - Acting to Combat Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction." This theme is practical and urgent in the context of new tobacco products infiltrating society, especially among teenagers, students, and rural youth.

To translate challenges into concrete actions, the Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association suggested that Farmers' Associations at all levels proactively coordinate with relevant units to strengthen communication about the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harm, the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2026, and the harmful effects of tobacco, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products to a wide range of officials, members, farmers, and the general public, especially young farmers and youth in rural areas.
Promote the role and responsibility of the heads of agencies and organizations in preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco; continue to integrate the content of propaganda and mobilization of officials, members, and farmers to participate in preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco with the tasks of the association, linking it with the implementation of campaigns and emulation movements.
Actively advise Party committees and coordinate with the government in strengthening inspections, promptly detecting and proposing strict handling of organizations and individuals engaging in the production, trading, import, storage, transportation and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in violation of regulations…

Following the rally, representatives from the City's Center for Disease Control informed farmer members about the current state of tobacco use, the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products on the health of both smokers and those around them who are exposed to secondhand smoke; the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harm and the penalties for smoking in prohibited areas…
Over the past period, thanks to the efforts of ministries, sectors, and localities, and the active support of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund, the rate of cigarette use among adult men has decreased by an average of 0.5% per year. The rate of cigarette smoking among teenagers aged 13-15 and the rate of exposure to passive smoking in households, public places, and workplaces have also decreased significantly.
However, there are still over 15 million smokers today. Tobacco use is causing a burden of disease and premature death, with an estimated more than 100,000 deaths each year. Besides harming health, tobacco also negatively impacts the quality of the workforce, increasing the burden on families and society.
