Farmers in Nam Cuong commune (Nam Truc district) are developing a farm-based economic model.

With encouragement from the Farmers' Association at all levels, in April 2017, Mr. Vu Dinh Kien, a farmer member of Truc Noi commune (Truc Ninh district), established the Hoang Thanh Nam Dinh Herbal Cooperative, specializing in rice production, cultivation and preliminary processing of medicinal herbs, and providing agricultural services such as sowing and transplanting rice by machine, spraying pesticides by drone, harvesting with combine harvesters, and drying rice. Building on this initial success, Mr. Kien boldly applied scientific and technological advancements, linking with other cooperatives and farmers to expand production. The cooperative has developed a direct production area of 10 hectares and a linked area of 40 hectares, purchasing 250-400 tons of fresh rice per season; supplying 400 tons of rice annually, primarily fragrant Bac Thom rice, generating revenue of approximately 6 billion VND. In Hai An commune (Hai Hau district), in 2024, the commune's Farmers' Association coordinated with and guided its members to establish a cooperative for aquaculture and seafood processing with the following models: eel farming on 5.5 hectares, various types of grass carp farming on 1.2 hectares, pig farming with 2,000 pigs; and intercropping vegetables and fruit trees such as guava, lemon, betel nut, and clean vegetables on 3.5 hectares. Thanks to its dynamism in production and business, the cooperative has achieved quite good results. The production models have proven suitable to the local land and climate conditions, bringing high economic efficiency, generating revenue of 15 billion VND/year, and creating regular jobs for 5 workers. These are just two of hundreds of effective collective economic models that the Farmers' Association at all levels has promoted, encouraged, and guided the establishment of.

To promote the construction and development of collective economic models, the Provincial Farmers' Association (HND) has directed its branches at all levels to implement Resolution No. 10-NQ/HNDTW of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association on "The Vietnam Farmers' Association's participation in the development of collective economic models in agriculture and rural areas in the period 2020-2025"; and advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue Plan No. 57/KH-UBND dated April 3, 2024, on the implementation of Decision No. 182/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Project "The Vietnam Farmers' Association's participation in the development of collective economic models in agriculture until 2030" in Nam Dinh province. The Provincial Farmers' Association has signed a cooperation program with the Provincial Cooperative Alliance and relevant departments and agencies to achieve the goal of 15,000 effective agricultural cooperatives and cooperative unions. Promote propaganda, mobilization, and support for farmers to develop agricultural economy and build new rural areas in conjunction with restructuring the agricultural sector in the period 2022-2025.

Alongside this, the Farmers' Association at all levels has promoted the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, helping each other to get rich; focusing on training reputable farmers who excel in production and business to build models and act as focal points for linking and cooperating in groups of households, cooperatives, and associations. The provincial Farmers' Association organized 51 conferences to disseminate information on production linkages along the value chain and the construction of agricultural commodity value chains for thousands of farmer members who are excellent producers and business owners, members of branches and professional associations; coordinating with the Central Economic Committee of the Farmers' Association to organize training courses to raise awareness and knowledge about production along the value chain for over 500 cadres and members who are excellent farmers. The Farmers' Association at all levels has focused on supporting and guiding members in building and replicating many effective economic development models; mobilizing farmer members to lease and consolidate land to link with companies in production along the value chain.

From 2017-2024, the Association guided and directly established 15 new cooperative models and 175 cooperative groups, bringing the total number of agricultural cooperative models to 19 with 203 participating members; and 210 cooperative groups with 2,979 participating members. Many models that have come into operation have connected farmers to develop production together, increase the value of goods, create concentrated production areas, and contribute to the formation of over 39 new models in the linkage of production and consumption of agricultural products along the value chain and concentrated specialized production areas following the "large field" model for high economic efficiency. Typical examples include: the high-quality rice production, processing and consumption linkage chain associated with building the Nam Dinh rice brand of Toan Xuan Co., Ltd. and Cuong Tan Co., Ltd.; the dried agricultural product processing linkage chain of Minh Duong Company; The seafood processing chain of Hung Vuong Company… The Farmers' Association at all levels has directly implemented and built dozens of linkage models, typical examples include: “Linking the production value chain associated with the consumption of F1 HN88 hybrid glutinous corn, supporting the consolidation of cooperatives” on a scale of 18 hectares in Thanh Loi commune (Vu Ban); “Linking the value chain associated with the consumption of black carp” in Xuan Vinh commune (Xuan Truong); “Farmers' Association branches and groups specializing in poultry farming” in Trung Nghia commune (Y Yen); “Farmers' Association branches specializing in poultry farming, supporting and consolidating cooperatives” in Hai Hung commune (Hai Hau); “Circular agricultural production on a household, farm, cooperative and group scale” in Thanh Loi commune (Vu Ban)... The Associations at all levels have also mobilized members and farmers to effectively implement the “One Commune, One Product” program. In addition, farmers have participated in building 459 "Large-Scale Farming" models with a total area of 21,037 hectares, of which 4,000 hectares have guaranteed product sales; continuing to maintain and expand agricultural production models applying biological products, organic farming, and advanced science and technology; and models of households, groups, cooperatives, and associations linking with businesses to produce agricultural products in a chain. The Farmers' Association plays a central role in connecting farmers with businesses to link production in a chain and ensure a harmonious balance of interests among all parties.

The provincial-level Farmers' Association also directed the promotion of the establishment of professional farmers' branches and groups; guiding grassroots units to select and leverage the strengths of local industries and production and business sectors to build appropriate professional farmers' branches and groups, ensuring they meet the criteria of "5 selfs" (voluntariness, self-awareness, self-reliance, self-management, and self-responsibility) and "5 togethers" (together in the same field of labor, production, business, and service; together in common interests; together in common sharing; together in common responsibility; and together in common benefit). In 2024, the Association launched 15 professional farmers' branches and 42 professional farmers' groups, bringing the total number of professional farmers' branch and group models in the province to 203 models with over 2,600 participating members. This serves as a foundation for the development of new-style agricultural cooperatives and associations.

In the coming period, all levels of the Farmers' Association in the province will promote the effective implementation of the emulation movement "Farmers' Association officials and members actively participate in the development of collective economic activities in agriculture." They will support and guide farmers' association members in participating in and developing diverse models of cooperatives and associations with the motto "equality, cooperation, mutual benefit." They will also establish professional branches and groups of the Farmers' Association in collective economic organizations with favorable conditions, contributing to the sustainable and effective development in scale, quantity, and quality of collective economic forms in agriculture and rural areas.
