Artists and writers in the capital city are pioneers in creativity.

Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo places literature and art at the heart of development, directly linking it to the mission of expressing the character, intellect, soul, aspirations, and position of the nation in the new development stage; from that spirit, the capital's artists and writers are striving to transform these orientations into practical actions, affirming their pioneering role and creative value.

A reminder of responsibility

Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture was issued at a time when the country was entering a new stage of development with a strong aspiration for progress. For the first time, the resolution demanded the development of literature and art commensurate with the nation's cultural history and the country's stature in the new era.

At the seminar "The Pioneering Role of Hanoi's Artists and Writers in Implementing Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the Development of Vietnamese Culture" on May 21st, People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Chairman of the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts Associations, stated that this is a very high and clear requirement, encompassing both political, academic, and artistic aspects. The resolution emphasizes the role of intellectuals and artists as a crucial force in the development of culture.

“Promoting the core role of the capital's artists and writers; fostering the creation of works of high ideological and artistic value; contributing to nurturing the soul, spirit, and character of Vietnam; arousing the aspiration to contribute to building an advanced Vietnamese culture, rich in national identity, for a strong, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam. This is both a political task and a responsibility and mission of every artist and writer in the new era of development of the capital and the country,” affirmed People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem.

In the face of this common task, artists and writers in Hanoi play a pivotal role in leading and setting an example. It is even more crucial to thoroughly understand the content and identify solutions for developing Hanoi's and the country's culture in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 80. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Son, of the Hanoi Folk Arts Association, analyzed: unlike other localities and regions in the country, for millennia Thang Long - Hanoi has maintained its role of both creating and developing, and attracting talent. "Thang Longization" - "Hanoiization" helps the capital city to both spread values from all directions, maintain traditions, and open the way to receiving the finest aspects of world culture.

Built upon a solid foundation of knowledge, Hanoi's artists and writers have established their talent and character, forming a large, elite, and strong force that is steadily maturing. Over the past 40 years of the Doi Moi (Renovation) period, many leading artists and writers from across the country have emerged within Hanoi's artistic community, with numerous works receiving international recognition... This is a crucial foundation for meeting the demands of new development.

“Resolution 80 focuses on the important and urgent issues facing the country today. Public opinion will look to this to identify new signals, new awareness, and the beginning of a new cultural journey in Hanoi and nationwide. Now, whether artists in the capital can maintain their pioneering role depends on their ability to understand and absorb the most fundamental and new contents of the Resolution,” said Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Son.

Pioneering innovation

Based on the political foundation of Resolution 80 and the Hanoi City Party Committee's Action Program No. 08-CTr/TU implementing Resolution 80-NQ/TW, the potential and pioneering role of Hanoi's artists and writers need to be transformed into concrete programs and actions. According to People's Artist Ung Duy Thinh, of the Hanoi Dance Artists Association, "The Resolution has inspired and encouraged artists and writers to create. But it is necessary to understand that pioneering creativity and innovation in Hanoi also means knowing how to look back, inherit, absorb, and promote the traditional values, culture, and civilization of a thousand years."

Sharing the same view, Meritorious Artist Pham Ngoc Duong believes that in Hanoi - the political and cultural center of the country - the pioneering role of artists and writers is more important than ever; pioneering in contributing and creating works of high artistic value, worthy of Vietnamese culture in the new era; pioneering in creating works worthy of the capital's cultured, distinctive, creative, integrated, developing, and connected literary and artistic scene.

"It is necessary to recognize and appreciate the outstanding historical and cultural values that Thang Long - Hanoi possesses. These are an inexhaustible source of creative resources for artists in the capital and a driving force that stimulates artists to create timeless masterpieces about Hanoi," stated Meritorious Artist Pham Ngoc Duong.

Affirming a pioneering role also needs to be demonstrated through practical projects. Architect Tran Huy Anh, from the Hanoi Architects Association, pointed out a series of activities associated with the spirit of "Hanoi architects with Hanoi" over the years. This includes proactively mobilizing social resources to implement projects to renovate public spaces, transforming dark corners of the city into bright spots connecting the community, such as Phung Hung art street, Phuc Tan community art space, Phuc Tan forest park, etc.

Hanoi is in a crucial stage of development, with the 100-year vision for the capital city underway, including many important infrastructure projects that have already commenced. Hanoi architects recognize this as an opportunity to contribute in their field. "Resolution 80 provides a series of conditions and opportunities for artists and writers to best fulfill their roles and missions, contributing to the national literature and arts sector. This pioneering role must be demonstrated through concrete work, consistent with practical experience and expertise," said architect Tran Huy Anh.

From a literary creative perspective, writer Bui Thanh Minh of the Hanoi Writers Association agrees: “The Hanoi Writers Association currently has about 640 writers, poets, literary critics, and translators. The capital's creative workforce is extremely strong; with policies to encourage creativity, even if only 1/10 of this group produces pioneering literary works each year, it would still revitalize the capital's literary landscape.”
