The Government Office comprises 17 units.

On June 1, 2026, the Government issued Decree No. 196/2026/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the Government Office.

The decree clearly stipulates that the Government Office is a ministerial-level agency of the Government, a strategic, key, and confidential advisory body, directly assisting the Government and the Prime Minister (including the Deputy Prime Ministers).

The Government Office is responsible for providing comprehensive advice and coordination to the Government and the Prime Minister in organizing the Government's overall activities and leading, directing, and managing the Government's operations; acting as a central hub for comprehensive information and communication to support the leadership, direction, and management of the Government and the Prime Minister, and providing information to the public; and ensuring the material, technical, and logistical conditions to support the activities of the Government and the Prime Minister.

The decree also stipulates that civil servants of the Government Office must possess strong political conviction, good ethics, high professional qualifications and expertise, and a deep understanding of the field they are assigned to oversee; they are entitled to incentives and protection mechanisms for dynamic, creative officials who dare to think, dare to act, and dare to take responsibility for the common good; and they are entitled to special salary, allowance, and preferential treatment policies as prescribed.

According to the Decree, the organizational structure of the Government Office comprises the following 17 units: General Affairs Department; Legal Affairs Department; General Economic Affairs Department; Industry Department; Agriculture Department; Science, Education and Social Affairs Department; International Relations Department; Internal Affairs Department; Public Service Organization Department; Inspection Monitoring Department (Department I); National Assembly, Local and Mass Organization Affairs Department; Secretariat and Editorial Department; Administration Department; Personnel and Organization Department; Digital Transformation Department; Administration and Finance Department; and Government Information and Communications Department.

The units within the organizational structure of the Government Office are administrative organizations whose functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure are defined by the Minister and Head of the Government Office.

The Government Information and Communications Department is a Type 1 department and is authorized to use a seal bearing the national emblem.
