Regarding safe vegetable growing areas

Việt NamViệt Nam05/09/2024

Vegetables are a major food item in people's daily diets, so ensuring a clean food supply is crucial for protecting consumer health. For many years, Phu Tho town has planned the production of safe vegetables in large areas, suitable for modern suburban agriculture , convenient for care, harvesting, transportation and consumption, creating a foundation for the town's agricultural sector to develop other specialized farming areas.

Regarding safe vegetable growing areas

Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative is developing production models that are organic, safe, and convenient for both production and consumption.

For a long time, Phu Loi village in Phu Tho town has been famous as a large-scale vegetable farming area supplying vegetables and fruits to markets throughout the province. In 2012, Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative was established, linking the people of Phu Loi village to produce safe vegetables, helping to improve the quality and stabilize the output. To meet market demands, cooperative members receive training to improve their skills and techniques, mastering safe production processes with strict rules on the use of pesticides and biological and organic fertilizers, contributing to environmental protection and improving the health of both producers and consumers.

To date, the cooperative's vegetable growing area has been granted a planting area code covering over 10 hectares. The cooperative's products are currently sold at wholesale markets, town markets, and neighboring markets, as well as restaurants and school cafeterias in the area. In the future, the cooperative will continue to work alongside its member households to learn from experience, improve production techniques, enhance product quality, create jobs for rural workers with stable incomes, and contribute to the socio -economic development of the locality.

Mr. Vu Xuan Phuong, Director of Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative, said that currently, the cooperative has nearly 60 member households linked to the production of safe vegetables, creating stable jobs for dozens of local workers with an income of more than 6 million VND/person/month. To produce safe, high-quality vegetables, the cooperative has invested in building and effectively operating facilities for preliminary processing, packaging, and selling herbs and spices that meet food safety and hygiene standards. At the same time, it strictly adheres to the regulations of VietGAP standards from soil preparation, water sources, fertilizers, planting, spraying pesticides, care, to harvesting and preliminary processing.

Furthermore, the application of technological advancements and safety and quality standards in production is receiving increasing attention. The entire town currently has over 15 hectares of vegetable crops that have been granted planting area codes. These codes have helped farmers standardize their crop care and management processes, enhancing competitiveness and expanding their markets. As a result, vegetable production efficiency is improving, moving towards concentrated commercial production, ensuring food safety, and meeting market demands.

However, the development of safe vegetable production areas in the town still faces some difficulties such as: small-scale production, lack of linkages, and the absence of large-scale, concentrated production areas specializing in processing and stable consumption markets along the value chain; weak linkages between raw material development and processing facilities; low area certified with safety standards; productivity, quality, and product value not commensurate with potential and advantages; and difficulties in attracting businesses to invest in production, preservation, processing, and consumption.

To overcome difficulties and capitalize on existing advantages, the town's agricultural sector focuses on prioritizing the development of specialty and indigenous vegetable varieties, organic production, and supporting production and processing facilities to improve their capacity and skills in production organization, quality control, market access, and product information. It also establishes, grants, and manages planting area codes and packaging facilities for preliminary processing, processing, and product consumption, ensuring food safety and hygiene, meeting domestic vegetable consumption needs, and aiming for export, thereby contributing to increased income for producers and protecting public health.
