Hai Phong Football Club has been granted permission by the Vietnam Football Federation to participate in the V.League 2026/27 season. The decision was approved on May 31st.

The Hai Phong football team fulfilled all necessary financial obligations as required by the licensing regulations for participating in Vietnam's professional football league. However, Hai Phong Club was still fined 50 million VND for providing the necessary documents late compared to the licensing deadline.

Previously, the VFF only granted conditional licenses to two V.League teams: Dong A Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong. These teams had to complete procedures and provide documentation proving they had no overdue payments to employees, tax authorities, and social organizations, and submit them to the VFF.

On May 23, the VFF Licensing Board issued Decision No. 506/QD-LDBDVN revoking Hai Phong's license to participate in the 2026/27 V.League season due to incomplete procedures. Four days later, Hai Phong appealed the decision, claiming their delay in fulfilling financial obligations was due to delayed payments from some sponsors.

However, next season will still be very difficult for Hai Phong FC. They have witnessed the departure of many key players such as Trieu Viet Hung and Pham Trung Hieu (to The Cong Viettel ); Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Bui Tien Dung (to Truong Tuoi Dong Nai). In addition, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem has already left and moved to coach Ninh Binh FC.

Coach Dang Van Thanh faces a daunting task: maintaining the attractive playing style of his predecessor while still ensuring good results. Fans believe the team at Lach Tray Stadium will face many difficulties in the 2026/27 V.League season.

In recent years, coach Chu Đình Nghiêm has built a Hai Phong club that, while not boasting many superstars, possesses a distinct identity. They have even reached the runner-up position in the V.League and left a strong mark in terms of professional performance.

However, Hai Phong FC actually only has a moderate financial foundation and no other sources of revenue besides support from the local government and a few businesses.
