According to data from the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the total number of tourists visiting Quang Ninh during the three-day Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the four-day April 30th - May 1st holidays reached an estimated 1,345,000. Of these, approximately 1,275,000 were domestic tourists, about 70,000 were international tourists, and an estimated 530,000 were overnight stays. Total tourism revenue is estimated at 4,165 billion VND.
The above figures show that the number of overnight stays only reached over 39% of the total number of visitors. This also partly reflects the "seasonal" and short-term tourism landscape that has existed in the centers of Quang Ninh province for many years.
According to Ms. Pham Thu Thao, a business owner providing apartment rental services in Bai Chay ward ( Quang Ninh province ), the positive signs from the beginning of the year, and especially during the recent Ha Long Carnival 2026, have given businesses confidence in a bountiful tourist season.

However, even those involved believe that a "seasonal" business model cannot help the tourism industry and related services develop. Ms. Thao said that most tourists visiting Quang Ninh only stay for a very short period, about 1 to 2 days, and usually concentrate on weekends and holidays.
One possible reason is that tourists lack experiential activities, or even "don't know what to do" during extended stays. Additionally, tourist destinations such as islands and fishing villages haven't been developed appropriately to encourage tourists to prolong their stays.
"During the recent 7-day holiday, our homestays were over 90% booked. However, most tourists only stayed for 1 to 2 nights, and some even stayed for just one night. In 6 days, we hosted 6 different groups of guests."
"In my assessment, this situation clearly reflects the fact that tourism is not attracting tourists to stay for extended periods, even during holidays. The problem is that tourists stay for 2 days and 1 night and then do almost nothing besides swimming, visiting a few tourist spots, and going to Ha Long Bay, which many people are no longer interested in because the tours and itineraries haven't changed," Ms. Thao said.

According to Ms. Thao, renting out individual rooms will bring short-term economic benefits because the price will be about 20% higher if guests rent for two nights or more. However, in the long run, if the tourism industry fails to attract long-term guests, it will stagnate.
"Quang Ninh has very favorable transportation conditions and natural landscapes. I think the current situation where people only come for a change of scenery for one night and then return home is a waste," Ms. Thao stated.

Commenting on the tourism market in Quang Ninh province, in an interview with Dan Viet, Mr. Duong Duc Tri, Director of Thanh Duc Tourism Company, said that to break the short-term tourism mentality of the people, it is necessary to solve the problem of service provision and connection.
"We need to put ourselves in the tourists' shoes. We can't expect them to stay in a place for an extended period without knowing what they will do in the following days. For example, in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or even closer to home, Hai Phong, just food tours alone can take up a whole day for tourists."
At the same time, other services such as island and coastal tourism also need to be modernized with more choices for tourists. Currently, many cruise operators still mainly focus on international tourists for experiential travel and lack research into the domestic market. Along with that, one of the key things that major cities and tourist areas need to do is develop the night-time economy," Mr. Tri said.

Specifically, according to Mr. Tri's analysis, developing nighttime economic activities will attract tourists to spend more. Along with that, it will gradually create the impression among tourists that they will stay longer in the area.
"Another area where I believe more information and promotion are needed is Quang Ninh's new tourism products. For a long time, people's minds have only associated tourism with beaches, and during the cold season, almost no one chooses that option."
With improving economic conditions, the demand from tourists for high-quality resorts close to nature where they can stay for many days, such as in Quang Hanh, or farmstay models in localities like Hoanh Bo and Binh Lieu, is very high. However, I believe that Quang Ninh's tourism industry is not yet synchronized and lacks well-developed tours to attract this type of tourist. Basically, there needs to be widespread information dissemination and suggestions for new products for tourists, similar to how Hai Phong City created its "food tour map" in the past," Mr. Tri assessed.
In 2026, Quang Ninh aims for a breakthrough in tourism with 22 million visitors (including 5.2 million international tourists), generating an estimated total revenue of 65,000 billion VND. Regarding the strategy for developing the night-time economy, tourist destinations in the former Ha Long City are currently seeing a series of new projects such as VUI-Fest Ha Long, pedestrian streets, night markets, food courts, and fireworks displays.
