On June 16th, the Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Provincial Police announced that they had worked with driver Nguyen Tien Thanh (residing in Ward 10, Da Lat City).
Earlier, on the afternoon of June 9th, a driver operating a private car with license plate 49A-738xx ran a red light at the intersection of Nguyen Van Cu and 3/2 Street in Da Lat City. The incident was immediately recorded by the traffic surveillance camera system.
Authorities summoned Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh (the driver who ran a red light while transporting an injured person to the hospital) for questioning. Mr. Thanh explained that he ran the red light because he was transporting a seriously injured person to the hospital.
Accordingly, while traveling on the Ta Nung pass, Mr. Thanh spotted a young man who had fallen off his motorbike and was in critical condition, so he decided to take the victim to the nearest hospital for immediate emergency treatment. Due to the urgency, he had to run a red light to save time.
After reviewing all the camera footage and verifying the information with the hospital, the traffic police confirmed that the incident was true. The traffic police decided not to issue an administrative penalty to the driver, while also acknowledging his sense of responsibility and humanity in the emergency situation.
Commending driver Thanh's timely and responsible actions, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tiep, Head of the Traffic Police Department, shared: "This is a special case that needs to be considered in a humane and flexible manner in law enforcement." Besides not imposing a penalty, the Traffic Police Department also expressed its gratitude to the driver for this noble gesture.
