Sharing with reporters of the People's Army Newspaper, Tran Hung Nguyen said: "Before the 32nd SEA Games, I spent a lot of time practicing my legs and therefore my sprinting ability improved significantly. Although I could not defend the 4 gold medals I won at the 31st SEA Games, I am satisfied with myself for trying my best."
Together with the Vietnamese swimming team, Tran Hung Nguyen spent a long training period in Hungary before attending the 32nd SEA Games. Returning from Cambodia with 5 medals, the 20-year-old swimmer only had time to visit his relatives, attend the ceremony to commend the Army sports delegation for their achievements at the 32nd SEA Games organized by the Ministry of National Defense , had the honor to meet the President and receive the Third Class Labor Medal before leaving with the Vietnamese swimming team for Hungary today (May 25) to continue training in preparation for the 19th Asian Games. Sharing about his future goals, Tran Hung Nguyen affirmed: "I will continue to train and make more efforts to improve my training and competition results. I want to achieve good results at the 19th Asian Games, and hope to soon participate in bigger tournaments."
Reaching regional level at the age of 20, few people know that Tran Hung Nguyen's path to swimming was not smooth. Coming from the same hometown as his senior Nguyen Huy Hoang in Quang Binh , Tran Hung Nguyen's childhood was not associated with rivers and did not know how to swim until he accidentally fell in love with swimming. In 2013, Hung Nguyen went to Ho Chi Minh City to learn swimming at the recommendation of an acquaintance, Mrs. Quach Thi Dung - mother of former swimmer Truong Ngoc Tuan. In a foreign land, the 10-year-old boy Hung Nguyen simply thought that he would try to practice to reduce the economic burden on his parents. In the first two years, Hung Nguyen did not have many achievements when he only finished 5th and 6th in national swimming events. With his constant training efforts and will to improve, Tran Hung Nguyen now owns 9 SEA Games gold medals, is the "bright pearl" of the Army swimming team and the Vietnam swimming team.
To have Tran Hung Nguyen with talent and courage on the green track is the "nurturing" effort of the National Defense Sports Center 5 - Navy, directly by coach Truong Ngoc Tuan, currently the Deputy Director of the Center. Sharing with us, coach Truong Ngoc Tuan expressed: "I and the teachers at the Center have gradually increased the difficulty of the exercises so that Hung Nguyen can perform well all 4 swimming techniques: Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle. In addition to swimming practice time, Hung Nguyen also has to participate in weight training, pull-ups, jogging, abdominal muscle lifting... to train health and improve physical strength".
Tran Hung Nguyen currently spends most of his time practicing, training and competing with the Vietnamese swimming team, but the will and courage of a soldier always urges the swimmer born in 2003 to constantly practice and strive to improve his performance every day in order to achieve high results in the continental playground.
