The 3rd ASEAN Film Festival is taking place in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) from August 7-31. Over the course of nearly a month, 24 films from 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and 4 countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative will be screened within the framework of the Film Festival.
Among them, the Vietnamese film "Peach, Pho and Piano" by director Phi Tien Son made a strong impression on international audiences during the screening on the evening of August 15.
The ASEAN Film Festival, organized by the Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation in collaboration with the Consulates General of ASEAN countries, is an opportunity for Hong Kong (China) people to learn about society, explore the vibrant cultural heritage of ASEAN countries, and contribute to promoting the friendly relations between China and ASEAN.

The festival has built cultural bridges through touching films that touch the hearts of viewers. The selected films not only help strengthen connections between communities but also help audiences, especially the younger generation, have a journey to explore cultural exchanges this summer.

Organizers also expect the 24 selected films to demonstrate the soft power of filmmakers from different regions, highlighting their great contributions to the international film industry and creative culture.
At the opening ceremony of the Film Festival, representatives of the Organizing Committee and the ASEAN Consulate cut the cake to celebrate the 58th anniversary of ASEAN's founding.
Speaking to VNA reporters in Hong Kong (China) at the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Film Festival 2025, Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Charles Chia said this is the first time the film festival has gone beyond the scope of ASEAN, with four films from countries outside ASEAN, including one co-produced between Vietnam and Hungary.
He believes that cinema in general and the Hong Kong-ASEAN Film Festival in particular are bridges connecting people and cultures, in a world where there are many factors that divide countries.
In addition to the film screenings, there will be more than 10 panel discussions, in which directors and film producers will talk to the audience and exchange expertise with Hong Kong (China) filmmakers. Mr. Charles Chia also hopes that there will be more good Vietnamese films screened at the ASEAN Film Festival in the coming years.

Regarding the Vietnamese film “Peach, Pho, Piano”, Mr. Charles Chia said he was very impressed with the artistic title of the film. For him, the film was very successful in depicting an important period of Vietnam’s history and helping the audience better understand Vietnamese society and culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the film screening of “Peach, Pho and Piano”, Ms. Le Duc Hanh, Consul General of Vietnam in Hong Kong (China) said that this year Vietnam participated in the ASEAN Film Festival with a special spirit: celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), and at the same time celebrating the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN (July 28, 1995 - July 28, 2025).
Ms. Le Duc Hanh said the story of the film “Peach, Pho and Piano” takes place in early 1947, more than a year after Vietnam declared independence on September 2, 1945.
Through the film's characters (a couple about to get married, a priest, a middle-class intellectual, a pho-selling couple...), we see a picture of the people of Hanoi at that time, different in origin and occupation, but sharing the same desire for peace , independence and deep national spirit.
Ms. Le Duc Hanh reiterated that Vietnam's accession to ASEAN marked a historic strategic decision, opening a new chapter in the country's integration process and starting its strong development.
Throughout three decades of accompanying ASEAN, Vietnam's journey has been a vivid testament to the vision and political determination of the Party and State in promoting and consolidating a peaceful and cooperative environment for development.
Vietnam joined ASEAN with a spirit of friendship and a strong sense of responsibility. Today, in a world undergoing profound changes, and with a new mindset, Vietnam will continue to work with other member states to create new success stories for ASEAN in this new era of development.
With the film “Peach, Pho and Piano”, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong once again affirmed its support for the Hong Kong-ASEAN Film Festival, hoping that the Film Festival will continue to develop, providing an opportunity for each ASEAN country to introduce their culture to audiences in the region, while strengthening ASEAN's solidarity in diversity.
