Selling Vietlott lottery tickets provides Ms. Doanh with additional income alongside her grocery store.
Expanding a business from a small grocery store.
The story of Ms. Nguyen Thi Doanh, the owner of a grocery store at 16 30/4 Street, Vi Thanh Ward, Can Tho City, is gaining widespread attention after the Vietnam Lottery Company Limited (Vietlott) shared a video clip documenting her daily life at her store.
Ms. Doanh said she has been involved in the grocery business for the past 30 years. From the early days of selling goods in a simple stall, her shop has now been renovated to be more spacious and meet the essential needs of the people in the area. However, in addition to selling familiar goods, in recent years she has boldly expanded into a new type of business: selling Vietlott lottery tickets.
According to Ms. Doanh, when Vietlott officially launched in the area, she registered to become one of the first sales outlets. Currently, the lottery products popular with customers at her shop include Power 6/55 and Mega 6/45 with large Jackpot prizes; Keno with a fast draw cycle of 8 minutes/draw; and Lotto 5/35 - a recently added product line.
"Selling Vietlott lottery tickets alongside other goods helps attract more customers to the convenience store, making business more lively," Ms. Doanh shared. In addition, customers visiting the store not only buy daily necessities but also take the opportunity to choose numbers and print tickets, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day.
She said that her daily routine remains almost unchanged: waking up early to open the shop and rarely taking a break. In particular, the busiest times are usually early mornings and around 4-5 PM each day. "Customers come to buy lottery tickets and then conveniently buy other things, or vice versa; if they see the Jackpot is high, they might choose a few more tickets," Ms. Doanh said.

Ms. Doanh has become busier since she started selling Vietlott lottery tickets alongside her sales.
Selling lottery tickets is linked to serving the community.
Beyond simply selling tickets, her new job has kept Ms. Doanh busier than ever. She shared that she has to "talk constantly," guiding customers in choosing numbers and exchanging information about the draw and the type of lottery, so the atmosphere at the shop is always lively.
Many regular customers who buy lottery tickets at the shop are officials, teachers, medical staff, etc. Some come in person, while others call to have their tickets printed and pick them up later. On the other hand, she also proactively prints tickets in advance with familiar number sequences so that customers can easily choose when they come to the shop.
According to Ms. Doanh, as the number of Vietlott sales outlets increases, people in Can Tho are becoming more familiar with the self-selection lottery format. Players know the draw dates, understand each product line, and choose according to their personal needs. On days when the Jackpot is high, sales at the outlets sometimes reach 10-20 million VND per day.
To retain customers, Ms. Doanh believes the most important factor is the service attitude. "Selling lottery tickets is like selling other goods; you have to be cheerful and enthusiastic. Instead of just printing the tickets and handing them over, you should also wish the customers good luck. If people are happy, they will come back," Ms. Doanh shared.
Although no customer has won the jackpot at her store yet, she said she remains persistent in her work. "When a customer wins, they're happy, and I'm happy too. So, I just keep selling regularly and hope that luck will come," she said.
During the conversation, she suddenly pointed towards the front of the shop when a regular customer came in to buy a ticket. It was Mr. Cam Son (45 years old), who frequently buys Vietlott lottery tickets at the counter. He said he had been playing for about 5-6 years, had won some small prizes, but still hoped to win the Jackpot.
"Sometimes I call to order, sometimes I go to the shop. Winning a few tens of thousands of dong is nice, but I still hope to win big," said Cam Son.
Vietlott and its local distribution system
Vietnam Electronic Lottery Company Limited (Vietlott) was established in 2011 under Decision No. 1109/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister and is currently under the Ministry of Finance according to Decision No. 2933/QD-BTC.
Vietlott operates various types of computerized lottery and prize-winning entertainment games nationwide, including: Mega 6/45, Power 6/55, Max 3D/3D+/3D Pro, Keno, Bingo18, and Lotto 5/35, in compliance with current legal regulations.
Through its network of sales points in various localities, Vietlott's business model not only provides legal lottery services but also contributes to generating additional income for small businesses. This gives many small traders like Ms. Doanh the opportunity to improve their income and connect their business activities with the legitimate entertainment needs of the people.
