On the evening of May 23rd (local time), Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, along with their co-stars from Asteroid City, attended the 76th Cannes Film Festival to premiere their new film.

Arriving at the event in a cheerful mood, however, the couple from A Man Called Otto encountered an unfortunate situation right on the red carpet. They apparently had a conflict with a male staff member of the Cannes Film Festival.

Press photos show a man in formal attire gesturing to Tom Hanks while he's posing for pictures with his co-stars. For reasons unknown, subsequent photos show Tom Hanks and his wife looking tense as they speak to the man. While the stranger appears quite calm, Tom Hanks looks visibly uncomfortable, frowning, pursing his lips, and repeatedly pointing at the man. Rita Wilson also behaves similarly.

Following the incident, Tom Hanks and his wife continued to walk the red carpet with their colleagues and pose for photos.

Currently, Tom Hanks' representatives have not commented on the matter.

The trip to Cannes took place about a month after Mr. and Mrs. Hanks and Wilson celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.

On her personal page, the actress from Now and Then shared a photo of her husband holding a cake with the words "Happy Anniversary" on it, his eyes filled with affection as he looked at her. "35 years of marriage. April 30, 1988. Love is everything," she wrote.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson first met on the set of Bosom Buddies in 1981. At the time, they were just friends, and Tom Hanks was married to his college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes.
