From June 1st, unleaded gasoline will be blended into E10 bioethanol for use in gasoline engines nationwide. This is the main content of the Circular stipulating the roadmap and application of the blending ratio of bioethanol with traditional fuels in Vietnam, issued by the Minister of Industry and Trade on November 7, 2025, aiming to promote the use of bioethanol, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute to achieving green growth goals.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with gasoline consumption at approximately 1 million m³/month, the demand for E10 ethanol for blending is around 100,000 m³/month. The supply is currently largely secured by businesses, including domestic production and imports.

Regarding blending capacity, the three major companies, Petrolimex , PVOil, and Saigon Petro, currently have a combined capacity of approximately 890,000 m³/month. If we include companies awaiting licensing, the total capacity could exceed the domestic demand for blending E5 and E10 gasoline.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that most cars and motorcycles currently in circulation in Vietnam can use E10 gasoline. However, to ensure an option for older vehicles, E5 RON92 gasoline will continue to be available until the end of 2030. E5 and E10 gasoline are biofuels blended from mineral gasoline, with ethanol ratios of 5% and 10% respectively.

The deployment of E10 is expected not only to help reduce emissions but also to expand the market for biofuels, contributing to national energy security.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, when implementing the transition to new fuel sources like E10 gasoline, there is always concern and anxiety about using this type of gasoline. To issue the roadmap for the transition to E10 gasoline on June 1st, the Ministry of Industry and Trade consulted extensively with experts, as well as manufacturers of equipment used in people's transportation such as cars and motorcycles. The Ministry received quite positive feedback from manufacturers.

"It can be confirmed that all new vehicles manufactured from 2000 onwards can use E10 gasoline. Experts have also analyzed and assessed the related impacts of E10 gasoline on equipment. We have also seen media outlets and experts provide very detailed answers on this matter," the Deputy Minister said.

According to the Deputy Minister, to address the remaining concerns regarding very old vehicles, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also proposed and issued a regulation to maintain the sale of E5 gasoline until 2030.

"In addition, we will continue to study the situation in the coming period so that we can provide further advice and guidance on usage for consumers," the Deputy Minister said.
