“Overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain”, ensuring safety for soldiers participating in the September 2nd Ceremony

Due to the impact of storm No. 5, Hanoi had very heavy rain, but the spirit of "overcoming the sun and conquering the rain" of the soldiers participating in the parade and marching in the People's Public Security force was always steadfast.

Up to this point, the health of soldiers participating in the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2 (A80) is almost absolutely guaranteed.

Standing side by side with the soldiers on the training ground since May are 124 doctors and nurses from the Mobile Police Command, Hospital 19-8, and Traditional Medicine Hospital (Ministry of Public Security) to provide the best health care for the soldiers.

Overcoming hardship and harsh weather

Talking to reporters on the morning of August 26, when the rain poured down on Hanoi, I was quite surprised when Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor Vu The Hao, Deputy Head of the Medical Department, Mobile Police Command, said that the soldiers participating in the A80 parade still practiced even when it was raining heavily. Yesterday afternoon, the rain was lighter, so the soldiers practiced outdoors.

To ensure medical work, tents were set up in the training area at the National University (Hoa Lac, Hanoi ) and on both sides of the road for soldiers to take shelter when resting. "Today, due to heavy rain, the units took advantage of the corridors of the resting areas and covered areas to take turns practicing. Basically, every day the formation has to practice to warm up and move, ensuring the best physical strength for the rehearsal day and the grand ceremony without fatigue or exhaustion," Dr. Hao further explained.

Dr. Hao has a lot of experience in participating in medical work for major events of the country such as: The 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day, National Reunification Day and 70th anniversary of August Revolution, National Day September 2nd; 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (A70), 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation (A50) and now the A80 event. During the times accompanying the important events of the country, Dr. Hao and the doctors of the Mobile Police Command were "organized" to eat and live with the parade units throughout the training journey on the training ground until the event ended. The doctors and nurses were the first to be present when soldiers had an accident, and the last when soldiers returned to rest. According to him, at the beginning of the training period, in June and July, the weather was extremely harsh, the outdoor heat reached over 40 degrees, greatly affecting the health of the officers and soldiers. Many soldiers whose physical strength was not used to it fainted due to heat shock, heatstroke, heatstroke, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. In phase 1, there were also many soldiers who had musculoskeletal diseases such as knee effusion, heel injuries due to participating in the A50 and A70 events, so they had to take a lot of care of their health. Some soldiers trained in hot weather, their heart rate reached 200; or underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, blood pressure when training at high intensity were revealed, the doctors promptly discovered and recommended the Command to return to the unit.

To ensure the best medical care during the training on the training ground, until the general training sessions, preliminary rehearsals, final rehearsals and the Great Ceremony, the Mobile Police Command has mobilized 111 doctors and nurses from Mobile Police Regiments nationwide, "staffed" according to the marching and training groups in Hanoi and Lao Cai. In addition, medical support includes 10 doctors and nurses from Hospital 19-8 and 3 doctors and nurses from the Traditional Medicine Hospital, whose numbers have also been "cut" from the hospital to "staff" according to the marching groups since May. This is a task that lasts for many months. Taking care of the health of officers and soldiers is a comprehensive and meticulous process, down to the smallest details. Therefore, doctors and nurses assigned to each unit must monitor the health of each row and position to assess the health of each student, promptly detect abnormalities, and ensure the best medical care and nutrition for the soldiers," Dr. Hao shared.

Proud to carry out the glorious mission

Following the parade since June, Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Head of the Medical Team of Hospital 19-8, shared that at first, in all groups, many soldiers were not used to the intensity of training and the harsh weather and were exhausted. The soldiers practiced walking steadily and continuously for 4-5km. At first, the female group had more difficulties, some of them were a bit "hesitant", but during the training process, the female soldiers' mentality was "steadier" than the male group. "There are 2 male soldiers in the Mobile Reserve Combat Unit who are tall and big, but when practicing, they often have symptoms of respiratory disorders and often faint. After 4 months of training, in the final stage, the soldiers' physical strength is good, no one is sick anymore. Everyone tries to "overcome the sun, overcome the rain" with the highest determination, everyone wants to march in the parade on Ba Dinh Square so they try very hard", Dr. Nam shared.

According to Dr. Nam, each marching group has nearly 200 people, including 160 main and reserve soldiers, teachers, nurses and doctors. Every day on the training ground, there are 15 training groups, 2 central medical tents and medical staff in each group. On duty at the central tent, Dr. Nam said that if soldiers have minor health problems, they will be treated right at the group, and if they are serious, they will be taken to the central tent. In addition to taking care of the soldiers' health on the training ground, doctors also provide nutritional supplements, vitamins and supplements to improve their physical condition. In addition, they also take care of their mental health, encourage and comfort the soldiers to try their best to practice.

Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam said that before the general training and preliminary rehearsal sessions, the doctors and nurses ensured medical care for 15 parade groups on the way to Ba Dinh Square. Upon arrival, they divided into 2 directions: Following the parade group and deploying to medical tents. To serve the A80 event, the Mobile Police Command arranged for each standing group to have 1 doctor and 4 nurses; the moving group had 1-2 doctors and 4-5 nurses. Participating in medical care for the 7 standing groups were 28 doctors and nurses. Up to this point, according to Dr. Vu The Hao, the health of the soldiers in the standing group was guaranteed. While deploying medical care according to the parade groups, the doctors and nurses of the Mobile Police Command also coordinated with hospitals in the People's Public Security Force, the People's Public Security Academy's Infirmary and the People's Police Academy to deploy medical tents along all important routes where the parade groups, marching groups, and vehicles passed. In addition, ambulances were arranged on some routes to be ready to rescue soldiers and people to the nearest hospital. Dr. Hao said that after 2 general training sessions, the medical teams promptly rescued many people who went to watch and had health problems.

After the parade on Ba Dinh Square, the marching group of the Police and Army continued to march steadily and solemnly for 4-6km through many streets, to the assembly point and marched back to their units that same night. “The health of the soldiers so far has ensured almost absolute safety for the parade and march. This is an honor and pride for all of us to carry out this glorious mission, so everyone is trying their best,” Dr. Hao confided.
